So my mate is after a CD player for £50 max. I told him to have a look on ebay but spoke to him last night and he'd been in to Argos and looked at some Alba piece of crap! He's not too interested in looking too hard for anything as he just wants something to play music loud! But can someone recommend a better CD player for under £50 that is readily available without any trawling of ebay or classifieds?

I already told him the above would probably be better than the Alba. Any other ideas? Or has someone got an old classic they'd be willing to post to west wales for £50?

I have a Pioneer stable platter in the loft. It is a PD-S705, one of the better ones if I remember correctly. I can check its condition and give it a test if you think he might be interested.

    Regards

Thanks Rulocal but don't worry too much if its going to be a pain. Although if you do get it down and it works perfectly then give me a bell. As he's not to into hifi it needs to look the part if nothing else so no scratches or anything.

Nice spot Snoo but i think its £50 max. I'll pass it on though as he may go for it as the Sony brand is a good selling point for him I'd guess.

Yeah, plus mention the SACD. They have them in black also.

Haven't seen anything else other than the Richer Sounds one you posted.

Is the Richer Sounds one ok? I recognise Acoustic Solutions as being an ok budget brand but with enough hifi credentials to be a better buy than the Alba. I may be wrong though?

well at least the richer unit will have been 'tuned' by someone with ears, the Alba is likely to be purely a price spec unit.

Ah well, I just emailed him recommending the Richer or the Sony one as I think he's getting it fairly soon. Should do the job and bound to be better than the Alba one.

Sorry if you've been rooting around your loft Rulocal!
