It's a guilt thing; we know we're spending money when there is no real need, but we're driven by a strange compulsion to do it anyway. Must.....have.....new.....toys....! :inferno:

Saying that, I've lost count of the times I found my other half wearing some smart clothes that I'm sure I haven't seen before, which when commented upon get some vague suggestion that she's had it for some months. Yeah right.
