OK, as you all know i've ordered the AE Aego 2's, but I am keeping my headphone amp and headphones too.... and I only have one source, the PC.

So what I need is something that can feed the signal to two amps, that does not spoil the sound quality and that doesnt cost too much... really anything more than £30 is probably too much really, but if it has to be then so be it....

Does the headphone amp have a pass through, some designed to be run from tape out do. Run from source to Headamp to aego2, just turn aego down when listening to headphones

Paul it's just a switch, should work in any direction I suppose, Just be carefull some of them can introduce a lot of noise into the circuit.

doesnt the amp have a simple tape out on it?

just run the headphone amp from the tape out of the main amp. Thats bound to be a neater and less detrimental option than running switchboxes etc. The route to a tape out on most amps is fairly simple as its just piping straight out whatever is being listened to.

The Acoustic Energy speakers are active so he doesn't have an amp

To answer the question, can't you run the AE speakers off the headphone out and the headphone out off the RCA outs or would this be a bad move?

I'm not sure what you mean TBH. I got the first bit about running the AE's from the headphone amp, but what then?, just unplug them when I need to use them? Its a possibility I suppose if all else fails.

BTW, i just got them, and they sound pretty nice for computer speakers to say the least!

Not quite as good as a Rotel amp and Rega Ela's but for this room they are more than acceptable, and actually quite good fun to listen to.

From what I read on the interweb, the AE has a headphone input and RCA input, I don't know if this is possible, but could you plug the AE's into the headphone out of the soundcard and then run the headphone amp off the RCA out on the soundcard?

there is a socket on the front of the aego2s- i always thought that was a secondary line in, but it could be a headphone socket. Try it and see Batman

It is another line socket rory, but when two sources connected at once, as you often do when using them from a computer, the sound drops in volume quite considerably,

Well I tried the Maplin switch that I had lying around, and it works! No audible degradation of sound to my ears either :)

    Cheers for the suggestion :D
