    Anyone own or tried one?

I'm about ready to replace my lost D80 and think i'll go for another D80 (or D200/D300??), and give the 18-200vr lens a go.

    Opinions appreciated.

The D300 is becoming rather tempting....

the supposed high ISO performance would be very nice....

    Body only prices (from amazon)

    D80 £500
    D200 £790
    D300 £980

At the time of purchasing my original D80, I considered the D200. But couldn't justify the extra size, weight and obviously, price for what (to me) wasn't a big enough step up.

The D300 seems to have taken things forward and maybe the size, weight, cost are MOre acceptable.

    I'm pretty certain I'll go D80+18-200vr and a 50 prime though.

If you were happy with your D80, why not?

To clarify, I lost my D80 a couple of MOnths back so this is a case of replace with another D80 (which I was very happy with), or use it as a chance to get something higher spec....

The areas where the D200 was higher spec over the D80 weren't enough to justify the extra size and price to me at the time. The D300 seems a MOre tempting prospect though....

In that case, go for it. I'm envious.

I've got an 18-200vr and I'm pretty pleased with it. It's quite a bit heavier than the Nikon 70-210 and Tamron 18-200 it replaced but I've certainly taken some shots with it in much lower light conditions than I could with either of the others.

Have still got the other two so maybe should do some comparison shots

    Which body do you use?

Had a bit of a play with the D300 earlier and very nearly bought it, but decided to come home and think about it for a bit.

Right now I'm thinking what shall I make to eat?......

Ahem, I keep thinking that the D300 is clearly overkill. It's bigger and bulkier than I'd like... It's probably full of features I'd never really need, and it would work out about £400-£500 MOre than the D80, which is a great camera.....

Then I'm thinking.... "ooooh! But I'd really like it!"

D80 it is! Leaves MOre MOney towards a car and possibly a laptop.

    Hi MO

I have an D80 and the 18-200VR. Very good general purpose combo IMHO. The VR is a little heavy but you get used to it!

I quite liked the very slightly smaller body that the D70, which the D80 replaced. But lets face it all of those would be good options and it's not about the technology really unless all you want to do is chat on the internet, which I am sure you don't!

I have a general mix of flicks up here.

    Good choice. I recently bought a D300 and have a 50mm f1.8 on it.

The VR 18 200 is the other lens I want to take long distance shots.

High ISO performance is just what I was looking for with this at 1600
