any one driven a Citroen 1.6 BX? that was the worst car i owned. Massive flatspot and would not accelerate smoothly. Every gaer change reminded you that the flatspot was alive and well. Only gave back 30mpg too.

Yeah you never see any BX's on the road now, I wonder why? Probably because nobody can afford to fix the suspension.

I had a BX 16v GTi, god it went like the proverbial off the shovel. It needed too much work in the end to be economically viable.

i had a bx tzd - one ofthe first diesel cars that actually felt like it was moving imho (i'd tried various others like the montego and fiat tipo but they were chronicly slow). i started using it less and less when i got a company car but the real nail in the coffin for it was stereotypically the suspension - a catastophic leak and a bodged fix staked the poor thing in the heart and it was towed away.

I had a new Micra as a courtesy car the other day when my Subaru had to go in for warranty work.

The style leaves something to be desired, but in every other respect I thought it was great little car. The brakes especially were fantastic.

Oh, oh! Can of worms! Don't get me started on superminis :)

    ALL superminis are p.o.s.

I think the worst of them all was the VW Polo. There was nowhere to put my left foot except on the clutch pedal or on the floor in front of the clutch pedal. This quickly became excruciatingly painfull and after 1.5 hours I was limping for the rest of the day. I had a real run in with my company about their hire car policy after that one. On one occassion I did get another supermini after that. I refused to drive it and left it sitting in the car park. Used my own car instead. Naturally I was hauled before the bosses so they got another piece of my mind. There were no more superminis after that :D

Second worst was the Ford Fusion. Imagine a cross between a farm vehicle and a tonka toy. Gutless engine, I mean totally gutless. Doesn't go round corners. Agricultural interior. Uncomfortable. The list goes on.

Third worst was the Honda Jazz. Another gutless wonder that had to be kept above 4000 revs at all times. Noisy. Jiggly ride. Rolled round corners despite the stiff ride. Dreadful.

Then we have the Renault Clio which drove OK but the engine needed to be well thrashed and suffered from severe flat spots.

Those are just the few I was unlucky enough to get to drive. I owned a Rover 100 and would happily take it over any of the above despite its poor crash test results. At least evrything on it worked properly and the engine was a good'un.

The worst I have driven is the 3 cylinder Corsa. It is depressingly bad. Driving it feels like what it must be like to have a dementor from harry potter suck all the hope and happiness from your mind.

I have to say, I'm quite surprised at all this vitriol for the 1.0 Corsa.
Obviously the Corsa generally is hardly a motoring icon, but i had a 1.0 as a loan car once and was quite impressed - engine was surprisingly smooth, it was economical and you could convince yourself you were thrashing it along like a wild maniac whilst still obeying the speed limit! I wound it up to an indicated maximum of 93mph and it just sat there, quiet and stable but with no more power to go any faster.

As to the worst car i've ever drive, that is easy - the Peugeot 205. Porridge-stirring-action gearbox that appeared to contain about 16 gears, accelerator didn't respond until halfway down its travel and the steering appeared to operate by the turning of the wheel making a whisking motion in a large pot of yoghurt which then was transmitted to the wheels. It also appeared that the panels and interior trim had been dunked in glue and thrown at the basic shell from about 30 feet away, judging by the incessant squeaking and rattling. Truly evil thing and the thought of one with a 1.9 fuel injected engine brings me out in a cold sweat...............

I actually had abit of fun in the Corsa 1.0l, that 3 cyclinder engine sounded quite nice and revved its little nuts off, best of all there was no danger of actually getting any sort of speed up, fun for a day only mind you.

On the subject of Fiats, Ive inherited an Alfa 156 with my job and though its got plenty of faults I am quite taken with it and, touch wood, it shrugs off the 500-700 miles I wrack up in a week easily and have been faultless (from a reliability point of view). Saying that there always that sense of doom only around the corner though! New car time at Xmas though! yipee

Worst car driven had to be the Metro closely followed by the MK1 Disco, actually Im making them equally awful so 2nd goes too the early 90's Escort, Im not sure they could have got it more wrong if they tried.

Yeah, I had a Metro too. The gearbox was a bit like stirring rocks and the clutch wasn't any too smooth. The Rover 100 was much better. I think they used a Peugeot gearbox and the K-series engine was a lot better than the A-series.

I'm surprised so many people loathe so many models. I personally drove the 3 cylinder Corsa. It was OK; of course, it was slow. But I tend to like most small cars. That is because their centre of gravity is more or less in the middle, and so they tend to corner well (there are exceptions: the Honda Civic 1500 is a very pronounced understeerer).

Perhaps thisis because I actually drove powerful cars and racing karts: all 'normal' cars seem gutless to me. So when I drive a small engined car I just think: OK, this is a 'normal' car.

A couple of months ago I drove a new Ford Fiesta diesel. It was quite good. Its (or her, if you prefer) owner asked me to drive it, and I had quite a go in it. I actually found it OK. Most cars are good, nowadays.

For REALLY bad stuff, just consider the Cadillac Fleetwood. That was a nightmare, and I cannot begin to understand how automatic gearboxes, heavily power steering, velvety gearboxes and smooth, condom-like brakes are the fashion nowadays in 'prestige' cars.

Yep. It's all a matter of expectation, which is what someone said earlier I think, and possibly not comparing like with like.

Some small and apparently crap cars have sort of endeared themsleves to me, including a Nissan Sunny, a Nissan Cherry (ooh that lovely rusty bronze coloured love-machine) and lately a Renault5 (although I have seen that referred to as a classic design). Of course none of them have been owned by me, ahem....;) All of the above have belonged to my better half, personally I have bought lots of thirsty powerful unreliable but fun cars, that have cost me a fortune  .Oh, and some other crap that I can't be arsed to mention.

....but don't listen to me, I'm talking b*ll*cks, because I have been drinking cider (well I am in Somerset FFS), and I'm not even sure what my own name is. C'MON ENGLAND!

    LOTS OF CIDER, OOOAAARRRRR!!!!!!

another ex- Corsa 3cyl rental car owner here. Horrible little thing that rolled around corners, sounded crap and not enough power for spiritied driving!!

but the worst was a 10yr old 1.4 Nissan Almera. Yes it was still going after 100k miles but it was so dull, gutless, hopeless handling, thirsty and uncomfortable.
