    Did they?

Well it does look a lot like an old Thorens deck.

The daddy of them all was the Acoustic Research deck, I believe. Dosn't matter, there are few nw things under the sun, turntablewise.

No, I don't read the mags. It's an internet item, which I posted. I have no view one way or the other about whether the magazines are full of deception, and traps for the unwary.

It is broke and they should fix it. Its way overpriced IMHO.

I would imagine Linn are still paying for as much advertising as they were 30 years ago. These two facts are quite obviously unrelated of course.

Its your opinion not the truth bub. Arthur's site is very interesting - I dont agree with everything he says but he does make allowances for taste.

BBV your constant argumentative tone with Bub is getting really tedious. This has been a peaceful discussion thus far. Please don't take it the way of the previous LP12 thread. Thank-you

Sure - I have modifed my post to remove the ninja comment. I hope that makes my post peaceful ;)

These threads about the lp12 are getting a bit repetitive bub. Is there anything possibly left to add?

Of course they are corrupt Bub.

And they have managed to be one of the world's most respected audio publications for decades despite misleading the reading public at every opportunity with favourable reviews of appalling products.

    Remarkable.

I'd far rather rely on the rantings of a nobody with a tiny and crude website and a chip on his shoulder. Seems far more reliable source to me.

Which reviews did you disagree with (apart from the LP12)?

    Hi,

Acoustic Research deserve credit for the 3-Point Spring Suspension, Thorens for the formal design that was copied and tweaked by Linn.

Most telling is that when you need spares for a Thorens 150/160 you can use Linn parts practically all the way through.... ;-)

The rest as they say is marketing and ONLY marketing.

The LP-12 in the later version and with a decent supply for the motor IME is a reasonable and solid turntable, about level with what I had in the 1980's.

(which was an East German deck in wooden venner MDF plinth [fetching deep grained mahogany for me], with a 3-Point spring suspension and build in low voltage AC syncronous motor Belt drive, interesting was that this had it's own super low distortion sinewave generator on board which included a fine adjustment for phase to the second winding, which allowed [using a medical listening instrument against the motor] the combination of motor and generator to be set for the most even and quietest operation.

As Arthur Salvatore points out, better alternatives have been made available since, so nowadays I use one of these (again made in Germany BTW).

    Ciao T

    Or paid for advertising?

I must say I am surprised they rated the Linn above so many worthy decks that got a runner up position that are quite clearly superior sounding. The origin live in particular. Bizarre.

I know, it's very strange isn't it? The LP12 also took top spot in Stereophile's "Hot 100".

Repeated suggestions of corruption @ Stereophile are verging on libel.

No libel - just speculation. Hence the question mark. Are these institutions honest?

I have heard one of the runner ups on the list and it was quite clearly better than the linn in every way - the linn owner with me at the dem felt the same way and sold his linn.

Argue with Stereophile. Point out to them the error of their ways. Set up a website. Go to Hyde Park Corner. Take it to the House of Lords....

Arthur already made a website - what do you think of his evidence? If he is correct then stereophile recommendations have zero value. Are any of the mags really that useful?

Bub its a legitimate question - now you are being silly.

Are mags irrelevent now due to the internet audio underground?
