By definition, it cannot be any better than any other lossless format, unless it is dramatically smaller, but it aint gonna sound any better is it?
Either that, or one format is flawed. I believe that did happen with one of the past lossless formats, but I cant remember what it was... What are you using BTW?
"sound quality indistinguishable from the original" it says. At around half the size. That doesnt automatically mean its technically lossless. Some interesting terminology here. However it might be the forthcoming MPEG-4 ALS (audio lossless coding) (http://www.nue.tu-berlin.de/forschung/projekte/lossless/mpeg4als.html) which is derived from an older lossless encoder called LPAC. In which case I would be very interested.
Well, I don't know the technicalities of it, except that I had to download the latest quicktime also released today in order to use the lossless compression feature. My conclusion is that it sounds very good, but still exhibiting bass bloom. I am prepared to accept however that the arcam won't be helping in this respect, its not exactly the last word in hifi is it?
