I am trying to find a batch of 300B amplifiers to go with our Living Voice speakers. I am interested at this point in the following models:

    - Laaudio P-300
    - Heart Beat WE 300B (Western Electric)
    - Manley Labs Neo-Classic SE/PP 300B
    - Sun Audio SV-300BTE Mono Amplifiers
    - Consonance Cyber-300BD
    - Border Patrol (bit too expensive)
    - Canary (not available in NL, maybe we should import these? :))

I would like to have around 20 W and the amplifier should be 'ready-to-play' and available here in The Netherlands... :) I would like to stay below €5000-6000.

Any comments on these and other recommendations maybe?

I might be on the wrong track here (please tell me if I am... :)) and should be looking at totally other amplifiers for Living Voice? I like the amplifier I am using now, the Lavardin IT. Also, I have heard Sugden go very well, but not good enough for OBX IMO.

    Very wise.

You CAN use a 9w SET amp, but it has to be of the very overbuilt type, or you may induce clipping.

The amp that kevin used when designing the Living Voice speakers was the canary amp shown below. It's had modifications on it done by Kevin, so you can bet your boots you will have a good sonic match for living voice speakers.

Canary 608LV integrated amp. 25 watts with Living Voice upgrade

    £950

    £3000 RRP

It is for sale at 'definitive audio' which is the 'shopfront' for Living Voice itself.

Thank bottleneck! I have seen this amp rear its head on this forum here and there! Maybe I should begin importing Canary in The Netherlands... ;)

FWIW, the Consonance 300B's sounded wonderful powering some Coincident speakers at last year's Heathrow show. Seriously impressive bass. Oh, and they look great too.

Have you thought about adding the Melody SHW845's (I know you want 300B's, but they've GOT to be worth a look?) and SHW300B's. Should cost you €3500 and €2500, respectively, from your friendly neighbourhood Chinese grey importer ;)

    DT

Nice place to be, Garmt - the "which €6k monoblocks?" seat! Lucky bugger!

Thanks guys. I have seen and heard the Manley amps on an audio show here in The Netherlands yesterday, but they are too expensive for me...

    Hi Garmt,

If you are interested in a pair of Canary Audio monoblocks then I am sadly selling my Canary 303 Signatures.:(

They are in perfect condition and come with a brand new set of 4 Electro Harmonix Gold 300B's. I am looking for £1950 for a quick sale. Let me know if they are of interest.

    Kind regards,

    Mike

Thanks for the offer Mike... I would rather first listen and decide.

Anyone ever heard the New Audio Frontiers amplifiers?

Thats a new one on me Garmt.

It looks like its 300B push pull, probably valve rectified by the tubes at the back..?

If I'm right, 20-25w.. should be fine :)

    Hi,

It is a push pull 300b with two 5u4 rectifiers. It also has interstage transformers driving the 300Bs.

Info found here. Not sure how much it costs. I'm sure I've seen one at a hifi show.

Can I suggest that you listen to the Icon Audio MB25's? They're beautiful to look at and almost as good to listen to. Less than £2k per pair.

I have a friend with an New Audio Frontiers 845 amp driving Sonus Faber Amati with an Audio Aero Prestige source, which sounds bloody tasty...

You can get this amp here in The Netherlands. I have just never heard the 300B version. It is 300B parallel single ended. Its about 15 W I guess.

According to this friend, they use the best materials. He could still improve upon it, but you almost always can... :)

if you're looking for a push-pull 300b amp, those canary audio monoblocks are good. I'd probably look at them myself for 2k.

Yep, a pair of what looks to be GZ37s at the back. Definitely looks to be inspired by Kondo-san's amps.
