588 vs 508.24

    meridian 588 vs 508.24
    I think they have difference in both sound and design.
    What's your idea?

    Neither.... 2nd hand prices for both are still pretty ridiculous when IMO the newer G07 is better than both and can be had for around what people are looking for used 588s.

    I did say IMO. I found the 508.20, 508.24 and 588 all quite similar, and a bit dull and boring sounding - I could not understand what all the praise heaped on these players was all about. By contrast the G07 is powerful and quite enthralling (again IMO), and I very nearly bought one a few months ago. Now if only Meridian would do SACD....

    I think NAD S500i design is similar by meridian 508.24, what's your idea?

    having heard a g07 at merlins last weekend i can't say i was that impresed with it (personally). it was a bit average really and coupled with a price of 1500 quid wouldn;t be where i'd put my money.

    meridian don't have upsampling and i think waiting for MF DAC be better choice.
