Hehe at least you have got that digit, Ford being ford (designed by accountants) only stick a 6 figure reading in the Escorts so when my dad hits 99,000 (which will be this time next year) it will go back to 0. Its odd considering the Zetecs are good for 150,000 without getting tired. My dad wrote his punto off at 56,000 (it had 14000 on the clock when he bought it) and his Lada's engine, gearbox and clutch failed at 67k.

I never realised you had an automatic though, don't you wish you had a manual driving up all them pennine hills?

I have never seen a petrol tank that full either :D I assume you stopped to take both them pictures (since you were in in gear).

All you need to do is do a million in it :D

Of course I stopped... doesn't go very far in park...

Gearbox choice depends on the car and how it's to be driven... Something like a caterham or an elise clearly demands a manual. For an everyday commuting car though I wouldn't go backto manual. For everyday stuff auto is far better imo... When I bought the car I wanted a manual, but I just happened to test drive this one and was so impressed with it that I bought it. More than 30000 miles later, I don't regret it at all.

Certainly in traffic I an auto would be better, its a pain in the arse stock in traffic having to bother with the clutch all the time.

Had 5 years of autos. About to change back to manual. Clutch and box never used to bother me driving 'round town.

You mean this one, Lee?? :)

That was when the car was 5 years and 8 months old, and it was around 8,000 from going round again when dad had to stop driving due to ill health. The engine/running gear was still tip top even then, but the bodywork, ICE and locks were all well and trully shagged!

Like my dads car, the engine and gearbox is solid, its the bodywork which will see it in a scrap yard, its not that bad but the sill is rusting but I keep on top of it every year.
