After the latest nonsense from Ebay I will be kissing them goodbye for good like I guess alot of people will, instead I'm going to try this new site as above, I've want to see how it goes, it's simple to use, cheap, as in no listing fees, you can pay a monthly fee or a commission of 3%, it looks fairly new but I like the look, it looks a good new place to shift some unwanted hifi.

    Good bye ebay.

Is there a link to what this is about? Sorry I've been away from Ebay for a good while now.

    Thanks

Sadly I've just listed some ATCs on ebay yesterday, otherwise i'd try this site, looks OK.
If my speakers don't go on fleabay, i'll certainly give it a go.
    Thanks for the link.

I'm just letting my last few run out and that will be it for ebay, I've started to list some kit on the new site already as it is very simple to use, nicely laid out and MUCH cheaper, just a shame I have to start from 0 again though

The rents on the Kings Road Chelsea are higher than on Sidebottom Street Barnsley.

Nor was there when E-pay first started. But looking at it it appears to be growing and probably will do so more when the new e-pay rules kick it, it's free, what's there to lose?

Only time will tell as to whether it takes off, it's not the first alternative to ebay that's existed. Ebay pisses me off sometimes as well, but it's still a great place to buy and sell stuff, just need to bear in mind the pitfalls and costs while you're at it.

Ebay were first to market and fair play to them for the brilliant idea. They've now got the critical mass and i suspect that will present too great a barrier to market for any new entrant to gain a foothold. I'm not even convinced that competition here will benefit the consumer - the strength of ebay is the size of the market - better choice and competitive prices for consumers and high volume for sellers.

I noticed that tazbar is offering PayPal as a payment-method option. As PayPal is owned by Ebay, is there a lot to get excited about?

    Best regards,
    Brad

What's there to lose? Plenty, I'd have said. Think about it. Its an auction site. The final value something goes for is in part down to the number of people who visit and the fraction of those who bid. If the number of visitors is tiny, you run the risk of anything you sell on it going for peanuts. Its like selling stuff in an auction in the back room of a pub, when you haven't told anyone the auction exists.

I'm not saying competition for ebay is a bad thing ... it wouuld be a very very good thing, but its trikes me the barriers to entry are absolutely huge

Nope, I don't agree with that, in principle. You only need 2 bidders who are genuinely interested to get to a fair price.

But there's sure not much there yet! - probably best to start the auctiion at a fair winning price - or just use the BIN-like option.

Ebid has been going for a few years ... http://www.ebid.net/ Here's the hifi section http://uk.ten.ebid.net/perl/main.cgi?type1=a&type2=a&categoryid=1229&mo=subcategory. And there's not much there either.

Hmmm ... sadly, it looks like eBay's got the market sown up. :(

The history of the world contains many examples of dominant monopolies that have turned to dust.

This maybe a slightly shameless plug but I am the owner of a new specialist hifi auction site!

    www.hifiauction.co.uk

    The features include,

Free listing, free membership, pictures, reserve prices, swaps and fixed price listing is also free.

There is only one charge, 2% commision on sold items. If your product does not sell you do not pay.

You can simply relist the unsold item (also free) and wait for a response.

The site is maintained by humans and all listings are checked for possible scams. The site is run from the uk and any questions or queries will be answered promptly.

Join today, you have nothing to lose!

That is true, but the likelihood of finding two interested bidders on nooneknowsaboutthisauction.com vs the likelihood of finding them on ebay is relatively slim.
