The Maplins spray adhesive had arrived. It's the sort which is very easy to target due to the 'narrow webbing' described above, rather than a wide mist.

Did a lot of research and got some great advice from the Auralex guys who offered a free room analysis service. Then a lot of experimentation with positioning. The result was definitely worth the effort and expense.

The room is 16'6 x 9'3 which is too narrow for my liking and it means my speakers are inevitably close to the side walls (about 15 inches from the tweeters).

    My neighbours love me. :D

No! It's an economy measure that's almost as good as using thicker foam.

After trying to mount the foams with sticky pads to no avail I decided to go for no gaps. The greater area in contact with the wall makes mounting far easier.

Anyway it's all done. I used 3 can's up to mount near enough 50+ tiles. You only really need to coat one side for it to be effective enough. It's strong enough for it to stay put, but not permanent should the tiles need to be seperated later on. Just mind the overspray on edges as it can make a mess if your not really careful. End result is pretty neat after half a day of mounting.

I went for triple layer everywhere. A 4 tile square panel is at each side wall mirror point. The rear wall has a load of panels just behind the sofa listening area, 1x5 tile horizontal panel.
Each speaker has a foam bass trap behind it in the corner, measuring 1x1x3 foot each. The face of these traps also have matching grooved tile applied. The front wall in between speakers & behind the plasma has a horizontal panel of 1x3 tile area, acting as additional bass traps. There is a rug on the floor, so that reflection point is sorted.

The only mirror point ignored so far is the ceiling, as it just looks a bit odd with tiles up there.

Sounds better so far, less echo and less bass bloom with the speakers right up against the wall and high volume. I'll have a listen for a week....

There are two mirror points (L+R tweeter) for each side wall. Treat both or you will get a confused sound-stage. Treat the ceiling mirror points.

4ft square should be enough I'd have though?

You are probably right, but it's worth checking.

Did you remember anything about the 26mm - I'm intrigued!

Side panels: made of 4 tiles on the surface, but three deep, so making 12 tiles total. Area = roughly 3' x 3' surface, max depth = 100mm.

Listening right now. I have to say the bass is now really solid and tight. Before it wasn't at higher volume in here (despite it being so in my lounge), so first impressions are great!!

No I'm afraid I never really looked into it. It was actually something someone on here mentioned. I think maybe Isaac talking to Mat of RPG? I never use it myself, don't much like foam.
