Hello All- was just wondering whether I could get some advice on my kit. I currently have a Kenwood dp-7090 cd running into a Tom Evans stage 3 modified precision amp running into Castle Severn mark II's -the interconnects are sonic link violet, speaker cables are bi-wire kimber (8tc on bass 4tc on treble).I'm broadly happy with my system but, I'm wondering whether it might be worth upgrading my speakers? I heard the PMCi range at the Bristol show and was impressed by the clarity , weight and imaging as I was by the Eclipse 510's (possibly more so) Would these be an improvement on my Castles?. Are there any other speakers which I should be considering? -Also, my much loved Kenwood dp 7090 cd player has recently started to occasionally miss-read discs, I've cleaned the laser and this hasn't really improved the situation. Can any body suggest a player that has very similar sonic qualities ( fantastic detail, very natural sounding, presence, rhythm, good imaging and sound staging-) just in case the kenwood packs in? Many thanks in advance

I'd have thought you'd do better upgrading the signal path ie source first then amps and speakers last ...it may be a bit old school now but I'm always amazed how much more the average set of speakers can reveal with a better source and amp....

the ic's and spk cables may be a little long in the tooth check that the pins and connection are bright and shiney....

Well... as it happens, I was thinking of sending the CD off to Colin at CPT accoustics to have it upgraded. How worthwhile do you think this would be? What do you would be a good amount to spend before the law of diminishing returns kicks in? As per the cable advice -I'll be deoxit-ing everything soon. Do you or anyone have a CD or DAC recommendation?

    Ditto Zanash here.
The Castle you have was the very first proper Hifi equipment I have owned, the pair does deserve a better electronics feed.
With all the respect mate, at the moment, it's like you put Mk3 Escort's 1.3 engine in to The Focus ST body work!

The Kenwood is surprisingly good- Very evenly balanced and neutral, no glare or grain. It has the same dac's and filter as some of the earlier Accuphase models.( as well as Wadia and Mark levinson one's I think?) The OP amps are pretty good too. It has a deep, wide soundstage and images well. The stage 3 mod's on the precision turned it into amp that beats pretty much anything under 2 grand and quite a few upward of that. I prefered it to an Audionet system I heard recently and it controlled the top end better (though it didn't have quite the same sense of scale) It also, kills any Naim system stone dead ( awaits the flames...)
