.. I thought I'd pop in here and see what's up :) So tell me, what has been resolved in say the last 3 years? Have we for example definitively nailed The Big Cable Question?

Must admit I've rather lost the bug and am going to sell off some rather juicy kit and plough the proceeds into Mrs Midlife's kitchen units...

Simon, this is a HiFi forum (I think), where does music fit in? :D

My hifi has slots 'n' drawers 'n' little doors 'n' spinny things, you are supposed to put the music in there I think. Also, some manages to find its own way in down wires after travelling through the air by pure magic.

I thought the cable matter had been settled... nailing them (especially big ones) is not necessarily beneficial to either the resultant sound or whatever you nail them to. Some may disagree. Maybe I should try cryogenically treated OFC nails.

A little cable discussion might liven the place up a bit though. :duck:

well, we were warned - home taping killed music; now all that's left is hi-fi...

oh god; really? Rob tried similar tactics here already, and amongst others a Nene Valley Ego bludgeoned contributors into the stone age...

I don't think we should go there.

Yes, it was an interesting but ultimately low risk social experiment :)
Didn't really generate the sort of traffic we wanted to be honest.

A few posts a day is fine with me and I know that Simon feels the same.
Donning muppet regalia and endlessly conversing with one's self would certainly improve our headline figures, but we'd rather have a situation where people can visit and ask question about real problems, particularly those new to real audio, and not be bombarded by twenty contrary views from the dubious fringes of opinion.

This place now serves a number of functions, and while a sad thing to see on screen, ZG died years ago and isn't coming back. It's function is now extremely well served by the excellent PFM, Wigwam and AoS forums which all have their own loyal following. No place for a mass 4th forum, but smaller niche forums still have a place - check out the excellent Audio Chews and Hi-Fi Critic sites for good examples.
Our site serves a different purpose. It serves as a useful repository for articles and papers promoting thinking that sits comfortably with the Audiosmile view and those of it's supporters, while also allowing free and open discussion on any topic. Plus of course it gives company publicity.
We'll continue to add comparator style download tests, 'how to' articles and videos over the coming months and a look at the thread view/download figures shows that these are popular, even if contributions are a little shy.

But in all seriousness, cable talk certainly isn't off bounds. Indeed, a good natured and in depth look at what does make cables perform differently would be very welcome.
I nominate Jimbo to kick off the topic.

Ok but i will not enter in the debate whether cables sound different. No doubt we need them and now we have wireless technology that cuts out the cable shark out there.

Didn't there used to be one manufacturer who did a stacking connector with their units, so if you had an amp and say a tuner they connected without interconnects?
