Got this this morning. it's ok but still not back to the awesomeness that is moon safari. it's far more mainstream than 10k was and in that sense more accessible but much more shallow replacing the pop gallic cool of moon safari with some ok tunes and some orchestration and not much else imho. at least it's produced reasonably well.
    cheers

    Moon safari rules!

Is it just me or does "How does it make you feel" off of 10000 Hz Legend sound REALLY distorted - especially on the left channel? (On pretty much every system I've ever heard it on by the way?)

I like Moon Safari. The Sunday Times were quite praising of Talkie Walkie. I think I'd like to hear it. I was very underwhelmed with 10,000 Hertz Legend.

mixmag also thought t/w was 'a return to form for air after the pretentions of 10k'. i'm listening to 10k now and it's much more attention grabbing than t/w which after 2 listens this morning is more like sonic wallpaper than anything else... i'll have a serious listen later as i'm actually quite enjoying 10k - which i've not done before odd that...

dom, didn;t hear any distortion as such - there was some time stretching / compression on some bits - like when you get the tape stuck in your shoddy car player and it stretches it out a bit. then when you play the tape again everything is slightly slower and deeper. or if you have a slightly off center hole on your vinyl... is that what you mean?

    cheers

Mebbe they deliberately made 10,000 Herz Legend a bit difficult and obtuse in order to dump all the "know nothing media types who used it as their dinner party album" from their fan base (they've all moved on to Dido by now haha). Bands have been known to do such things ;)

10K is not too bad. Good enough to get the odd play when I am reading the paper etc.

I'll try talkie walkie too as I like Air a lot.

Has anyone got Premiers Symptomes? I think its great.

Personally I think 10,000Hz legend is a classic .

Although, am I the only person to think that "Radio 1" [Track 3] sounds like ELO ?

Can't say I've ever had a problem with track so I've given it a spin and no probs what so ever . I've always been a big fan of the production on this album as it's very dynamic. Maybe this is causing some problems, for certain systems, at higher listening levels.

Now, if only the postie would hurry up with my copy of "Talkie Walkie".

Tricky's All Back to Mine is excellent, btw, apart from The Cure that is.

i've only just heard tricky's maxinquaye (thanks to black steal - or the street ka advert tune as i knew it) so it would be good to hear some of his influences and favorites. i'll have to look it up.
in a similar vein MTV dance sometimes has a similar thing on, usually at very antisocial hours, the chemical brothers one was very good and responsible for me finally caving and buying some kraftwerk.
I had another listen to T/W this evening but even then i got bored and wandered off to do the washing up and couldn;t actually tell when it had finished.
i'll have to check out the DIV BTM too....
    cheers

Don't forget he's also on Blue Lines by Massive Attack :)

That "time compression" thing isn't what I meant - the bass is really badly overrecorded or distorted on "How does it make you feel" - the rest of the CD seems OK. "Radio 1" DOES sound like ELO now it's mentioned....

I'll have to get Tricky's Back to mine - I've seen it in FOPP Reading for a good price :)

I think they (Air) also have an album they recorded with with an Italian author or something. The Author reading while they do background. Something along them lines anyway.

I like 10k alot too, and would agree with what's said above. MOon safari is MOre accesible, but there's some really great tracks on 10k too. The remix of "People in the city" on Everybody Hertz is excellent too :D "Bitches in the cityyyyyyyyyyyy"

Will need to check this new one out. The Mighty Lamb also have a new one out which I've still not got  Brothers birthday toMOrow so maybe I'll get it for him and *borrow* it :D

Julian, I've got quite a bit of Tricky and rate him very highly (one of the best). On the DVD which comes with his newest one "Vulnerable", he goes on about he's the ONLY musicina about with their OWN sound. So his back to mine would be interesting! I've only heard the Audio Bully's one, which was enjoyable.

Listening to Talkie/Walkie atm and liking it. Certainly much more accesible than 10k which I haven't listend to in ages but it is something of a grower.

Have everything that Air have done except for the "italian play spoken over the top of Air music" one that MO! mentioned which I've seen a few times at HMV but haven't been convinced enough to buy. Can't remember its name either.

As for Tricky - Maxinquaye is great but "Pre Millenium Tension" was utterly pretentious rubbish that has no right to be called music....or maybe it was Tricky's "lose the media types" album ;) I reckon it lost him a lot more. I certainly have ignored everything he's done since.

    Michael.

    Ignored at your own peril!!!

Well, not quite peril, but IMO the guys great. Maxinquaye is THE Tricky album, but he's done some other great stuff too. I like PMT ( ) and there's some really great tracks on it. How many times will I say "great" in the rest of this post I wonder? :p

I've been listening to his newest one, "Vulnerable" quite a bit after Santa dropping it off for me. I'll give it a listen later (having a Stevie Wonder fest going on at the MOment - well 3 albums  ), and start a thread. In short, beats which are distinctively Tricky, with a cute li'l female Italian vocal on MOst tracks, and some interesting lyrics. Blowback is a fav' of mine too.....

Picked up Talkie Walkie this afternoon, along with the new Norah Jones Album.

Very very impressed with Talkie Walkie - a brilliant album and well recorded to boot! I heard bits of Moon Safari a couple of years ago and wasn't overly keen, so I was a bit sceptical of TW. I'm sure I heard bits of TW at the Bristol Show - some of it seems very familiar.

As for the Norah Jones CD - not bad, not brilliant. A bit samey really. Still a decent recording though.

The new album is ok but I prefer the diversity of MOON SAFARI. Nothing in TALKIE WALKIE gets close to the camped up funkyness of SEXY BOY or the 80's style porno flick theme music of LA FEMME D'ARGENT. Have any of you guys seen the film THE VIRGIN SUICIDES? Air done the theme music, and it's well bizarre.

    Welcome to z/g Kirk :D.

Yup, The Virgin Suicides is a very good film but pretty disturbing and bleak whilst managing to be very dream like and beautiful at the same time. The AIR soundtrack certainly contributed to it's atmosphere.

Also nice to see a newbie make their first two contributions in the music threads :MILD:.
