The entire concept of "detox" is deeply bogus & New Age.

Maybe but I can vouch for using supplements such as Vit C and milk thistle in your everyday diet and this is a form of detoxification.

There is no such thing as "detoxification": that is the whole point.

    Oh yes there is!!!

I had a supremely satisfying evacuation this mornin and I was left thoroughly detoxed (and about 2lbs lighter!)

I detox every day - works wonders for me, especially after an Indian on a friday night:)

Just read that article, why are they right and everyone else who has been successful is wrong? coz its on the bbc's website? Medical science is far from perfect. Its not that long ago that medical science dismissed acupuncture now I know of numerous doctors who practice it along with other alternative medicines. And, in that article they claim the body can deal with everything perfectly on its own, great, I must start drinking.

Further more, you only need to observe other animals to realise the body needs to be supplemented to help. Im not saying that such a thing is the answer to everything but done properly over a short period can be a big help. After that a good diet should be all thats needed.

    Rubbish, it's the placebo effect.

We've known for years that there's no such thing as "detox". The general public love concepts like "removing so-called 'toxins' from their so-called 'system'".

Which "toxins"? Nobody seems to know. Vitamin supplements are unnecessary unless there is a dietary deficiency or an absorption/utilisation problem.

'Detox' is all part of the marketing machine - mainly targeted at women (for some reason they cannot filter this marketing crap). Its right up there with products that rely on vaguely french words to make you believe they must be effective.

I agree. You should a) not ingest too much crap of one sort another and b) make sure your bowel movements are regular, otherwise you will feel lousy. But to dress it up as something mysterious that requires special diets, enemas etc is silly and an excuse to rip off impressionable people, mostly of the female variety.

As The Devil is (AFAIK) the only qualified medical doctor here I'd be inclined to listen to what he has to say on the matter. FWIW I agree with him about "detox" being just so much marketing bull.

AFAIC, if a doctor says its bollox, then who am I to disagree :)

But TBH, I wasnt gonna try and detox anyway. The only thing I am doing is trying to drink lots of water, as that cant do any harm.

Felt a lot better today, still not 100%, but cant expect it after a day, but I have to say after the improvement I've noticed just after today, i think giving up the weed is definitely for the best.

It is possible to ingest too much water. That's what killed the "Ecstasy death" girl a few years back, can't recall her name now, but there was a big media hoo-ha about Ecstasy at the time, completely missing the real point, as always..

The sort that knows a great deal more about medicine than any of us. All doctors have to do the same rigorous general medical training before they get anywhere near specialising.

As it happens I believe The Devil's speciality is internal medicine.

Leah Betts was her name. Yes, she died from drinking too much water, not from E - allthough if she hadn't taken E she wouldn't have drunk all that water so the two are not unconnected, but I agree that people missed the point.
