I was looking for some "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episodes on DVD (we're all fans), and found a box set of all the two-parters, including "All good things...", the last TNG episode and a strong candidate for the best "Star Trek" anything ever filmed. Amazon UK offers it for £62.31 (down, it says, from a list price of £75.99). Yet the same thing is available from Amazon Germany for €49.99 (£33.30). AND the Germans post it free (Amazon UK only posts free within the UK). Something's not quite right here...

I was looking for Audio reality book, Amazon UK wanted over £55 when it was in stock. Amazon USA want $29.95.
    Go figure!

Have you had good service from 101cd.com Techno? The few times I've tried them they always seem to be out of stock and then take ages to send the item, to the extent I've cancelled orders twice. Maybe I've just been unlucky? I'd always go for the likes of CD-WOW, Play and DVDPlus; much better in my experience.

On the Amazon pricing issue, is it just a question of different special offer items in different countries, or are the prices of say regular chart CDs different to the same extent?

I've always used good old Play.com. Used Amazon for books now and again, but that's it everything else there seems way over priced.

It's the usual UK pricing of US products. Take price in US $ and sell at same numerical value in GB £. Nice and simple. No-one has to mess around with complicated things like exchange rates, shipping costs, import tax etc etc.

I bought a Technical book from Amazon US because even with shipping from the US is worked out £20 cheaper then buying from Amazon UK. The only downside was the 2 weeks vs 2 day delivery time, but I wasn't in any hurry for the book.

Sometimes things take a long time to time to appear from 101cd. I ordered 'The Hidden Step' by Ozric Tentacles. It was in the 2-4 weeks category. It took 8 weeks. I was about to give up! But they are cheap. And they have only had to give up and admit they couldn't get something twice. Trouble is they wait about 12 weeks before giving up.

    I really must try CD-WOW.

Sounds like you're just more patient than me :). CD-WOW are reliable. I did once recently order something from them which was out of stock, but they got it in a day or two later, and sent e-mails keeping me well updated. You won't get next day delivery of course as they post from HongKong, but then it's rare anywhere manages that. I have a couple of times found DVDPlus to be that fast, plus they allow you to see the stock levels online which I like.

101cd.com DO take a while on some stuff, and they're DEFINITELY not as good as they once were, but they're OK for most things. CD-wow are good as well.

It makes me laugh though - I've got a few LPs from 101cd.com - shurely shum mishtake?? ;)

Can somebody tell me why it is that Amazon in one country will display an item as being no longer in print or discontinued or just plain unavailable, when its sibling in another country will stock these products? I've always felt that strange or am i being stupid?

Also, if you can be bothered, it is wise to follow prices carefully as they tend to alter on occasion for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Whenever i browse Amazon, if i come across an item i am interested in, i put it in my basket for potential purchase at a later date. They reckon that items are deleted after 90 days but this is simply not true. I have items in my shopping basket that have been there for 3 years or more. In fact i have hundreds of items stored in the shopping basket. Periodically i go through it and make purchases, and guaranteed the prices of some of these items change every week. Hence i buy when cheap. All exciting stuff.

Also, FYI, the free delivery thing over £25. They claim that this free delivery takes 3-5 days. Well, ever since they implemented this sytem, and including the one previous to that where IIRC it was free delivery over £40, i have always received my goods within 24hrs, as if it was a normal paid for delivery! Well, i'm not complaining. Has anyone else noticed this?

    cookie,
the stocked in different countries thing may just be that they still have one in their warehouse but it's gone out of print at the manufaturers so other places can't get it new.
    cheers
