Have you checked out the FAX label? Pete Namlook is the main man on FAX, his output is prolific. If you can find them, the two CDs released by Jochem Paap on FAX are amongst the best 'ambient' ever.

What about Mille Plateaux? A variety of stuff on this label, but check out shuttle358 (aka Dan Abrahms), simply amazing. Also on Mille Plateaux is one of my faves, GAS, probably the most atmospheric electronic music ever created. 'Zauberberg' and 'Konigsforst' are my favourite albums.

Biosphere is a great artist. 'Substrata' Vols 1 & 2 and especially 'Cirque' are very good indeed.

Robert Rich's double CD, if you can find it, called 'Trances/Drones' is awesome, really sublime sleeping music.

Substrata Vols 1 is the better one of the 2, must check out the FAX label when the beer level has died down :)

Aphex Twin Ambient Works Vol.1 1985-1992 it good too.

Indeed. But tracks 6..10 (I think from memory) sound as though they've been listening to a lot of Tangerine Dream.
