I found an old old test record that had a sine wave type signal to only the left chanel and then to the right chanel, and indeed, my Dynavector DV20XL did present sound from the left and then the right channel. BUT, with the balance swithed fully to the right there was a still a quieter but strong signal coming from that speaker evebn thoug the test output was for the left channel and vice versa. The rated channel separation is around 30dB wich I remeber from my CD days is poor as CD is around 100 ish.
Should this be happening or have i faulty or poorly set up equipment?

I knew i should have stuck with mono 78's.....

Have you tried using the balance on other sources? Could be you balance knob doesn't turn the sound off completely when you ask it to. Some amps are designed like this
