yeah, the cops and an ambulance came this morning...certainly gave us something to talk about...!

but seemingly there was more to it than that - think some guy was seeing someones daughter and someone had a grudge...don't know all the details tho!

i used to work in a place where this kind of thing was common - the guy who ran the place was a total psycho - his nickname was 'norm' short for norman bates. he used to carry a claw hammer arround as a motivational 'tool' and threaten you with it if he thought you weren't working enough. he fired one guy with a headbutt and another one by throwing him down the stairs and then chucking a pc main box and monitor at him when he hit the bottom - he then went round the guys house with a few of his dodgier mates to do a proper number on him - this resulted in a restraining order. then there was the guy he smashed head first through a plasterboard wall. there were also rumors of worse things but no proof (the others i saw with my own eyes) however after having converstions with him about how to blow up the offices by 'fixing' the gas boiler in order to claim on the insurance due to the company being in the poop i can well believe them.
this was only the boss - the employees were almost as bad what with threateneing the work experience laddie with a fake pistol, frightening another work experience chappie off with an extremely dodgy s&m video, trying to assasinate the other boss with a firework, throwing the entire upstairs office out of the window in a drunken frenzy, covering a particularly irritating co-workers car in shaving foam, various instances of wife swapping / stealing, and more stuff i can;t remember right now but will keep me chucking in my dotage. ahhhh you don;t find places to work like that any more....
    cheers

Woah Julian - that's livin' - ell eye vee eye en!

That boss sounds like Begbie on his calmer days... He's a demonstration of why I'd never be a manager - I don't have the temperament.

...I nearly blew up my computer 2 weeks ago by managing to spill a cup of hot chocolate (almost boiling!) all over my nuts. I'd been being pushed to breaking point by this group of loudmouth sods (contractors) who'd moved in on the Monday, and this incredibly loud woman (lhatkins - she makes Bren sound quiet, and talks in the same clear and loud way!!), and the phones had been going mental.

Now if you know me, you know I have mild tinnitus (had since birth), and you'll also know I'm ALWAYS complaining about the mobile phones and drinks machine beeper here at work (the piercing beeps are actually physically painful to me). So the cup of chocolate was the last straw.

I went absolutely mental - effing and blinding - even while cleaning it up. I was in such a frenzy I didn't even realise I was swearing. I was actually storming around - I really regret it now, as my colleagues on my team looked like they were about to sh** themselves...

Nice official bollocking (and quite right too) - but those damn phones and cow-orkers are as noisy as ever. It's a good thing our PCs are made by Dell (balsa wood anyone?) and screwed into the desks, or mine would have been belted over one of their melon heads by now!!!

Work IS bad for your health!

the place was a now defunct games company called imagitec design based up in dewsbury / raventhorpe / mirfield. this was back in the 80's when the computer games industry was very imature. it was by no means an isolated example either - most places i've worked and people i've worked with who started out in the early days have similar stories to tell. unfortunately it's now too big a business for 'characters' like this to be tolerated - kid of makes it less fun now....
i left because i had the chance to go an work in the usa and it was too good an opportunity to let pass by. dom, by wild coincidence - the film you quoted (dazed and confused) was filmed where i moved to in the states (austin texas). spooky.
    cheers
