ok, I could really do with a hifi rack. I have looked at quite a few different makes, but they all seem overpriced. I'm not particularly bothered whether it has a good brand name. All i'm after is something nicely built and solid, but not overpriced.

I found one on eBay the other day, from a German shop with good feedback. This was a 5-shelf rack and only about £150 + del. Does anyone know if these are any good?

The other option is to go for the Atacama 2-shelf base model, then expand later. These seem fairly popular.

Can any of you guys recommend anything? Thanks!

I spent £160 total on having my custom frame welded up, 4 30mm thick granite shelves and the silly expensive (and in retrospect unecessary) superspike feet (which were £38). That includes paint as well...

I scored a 5 shelf Target rack at my local record fair about a year ago for £20. Absolute bargain, any second hand hfii/electrical shop would be worth a look, freeads/loot as well perhaps.

Getting one made is a good idea as well, custom building is definitely the way forward! Cost effective, you can get it built to your spec and for a fraction of the cost of some of the rack facilities available!

There's one going on ebay, Sound Organisation, 5-shelf, but you have to collect fron North London. Current bidding around £10, 9 hours to run.

I've got a rather nice Stands Unique with ash pillars and five glass shelves going spare, but you'd have to come to Norway to get it :)

I am in exactly the same position, don't really want to spend more than £150 on one.

Thinking at the moment of building one to the flexi design on TNT-audio. Problem being I will have to do it at my parents house due to lack of tools/space etc.

yeah, i dont really fancy building my own, asI dont really have the right tools for the job... and im not that confident either!

I'm starting to sway towards the Atacama Equinox - these are only £130 if you look around, albeit the two shelf base model, but you can expand them later.

    Anyone else any more ideas?

I built a TNT flexi a few years back, came to about £55ish overall, would have been cheaper, but I used pine instead of MDF.

You can get the wood pre-cut if you buy it from the right place so in that case you only need to drill some holes.

Here is mine (tidier now, but haven't taken a new photo yet):

    Hi,

Others have mentioned Ikea. I have used both "Lack" (aka Ikea (R) lyte) and Corras.

Corras is excellent but mostly suited to a "bench" style arrangements with gear on top.

The Lack Rack (IKEA (R) Lyte) originated with Neuances Ken Lyons and is more akin to "stacked'em'high" racks, but in my view the results are not quite a match for Corras.

    Here instructions for the LackRack:

    Corras should be self evident.

    Ciao T

I've not checked for a while, but there used to be a pretty constant supply of sound organisation racks about for under £100 a while back. 3 columns and 4-5 glass shelves.

Hi, thanks for all your replies and photos.

Could explain what you mean please? Is it not built very well?

I looked at the Oppli before, but i'm not sure whether my AV amp would fit in ok? Think its about 440mm wide.

Keep them coming folks, I need as many ideas as poss before I throw my money into this.
