was really tempted in the lv`s before i bought the audio physics.
the bass boom put me off in the demo room, but it was really small (about 3m x 4m)
    gorgeous mid though.

For me, their biggest advantage is high sensivity. You can power them with a SET amp, whereas Avalons require big and powerful push-pull designs or transistor amps.

IMO the sensitivity has been over-egged.

You can fire it up with a SET and it will work, but 20w+ makes it happier IME

Mega-SET amps with ginormous power supplies being a different kettle of fish.

I'm thinking of getting the Lamm ML2.1 amps. They are only 18wpc, but they are able to drive all Wilson speakers, including the Alexandrias X-2, so Avatars shoudn't be a problem in a medium sized rooms.

Yes it is. There is a guy on AudiogoN who has sold his ARC Ref 600 monobloks (600wpc) for Lamm ML2.1 and he swears, that his Wilsons X-2 never sounded better !

Most quoted sensitivity is nonsense; the LVs are no different, subtract at least two from the figures.

Elberoth, I would opt for the IBX, it will better show off the front end and give you more musical insight.

It is a TOTALLY different speaker than the Avalon, so listen before you buy! Also, the Avalon can be made to sound totally fantastic, considering you get EVERYTHING right. You might also want to demo the Avalon Ascendent Mk II. It is diffferent than the other models and one of the best I think regardless of price (with the exception of the latest Isis).
