    Hi,

It has always sounded good to me when i have heard it. I think there may be a review in next edition of Hifi World.

More important what do you think of it?

Goto say even through my little dot MK111 as a pre amp the difference is very apparent. Roll on my icon audio la4 pre amp !

The sound is much richer cleaner and spacious than my older Cambridge Audio cdp

    A great upgrade me thinks

A good call, great cdp, amps highly praised the cdp often under rated - all puresound system is great and I have had some pretty expensive kit before this

I upgraded to one of these from a Cambridge Audio CD5 some 18-20 months ago and haven't looked back. Fantastic sounding piece of kit, paired with the A30 amp it is a real treat, will be looking to upgrade the amp in a year or so all being well.

I thought HiFi world had a review of it this month but dosen't look like it :-(

As far as im aware its made by the bewitched factory to Puresounds own spec dumping most of the cheap stuff out in favor of high quality components.

Although i got mine second user for 200 quid so im not complaining.

I have spoken to Guy of Puresound. There are a number of CD players made in the same factory, but customers specify what goes in it (in Puresound case higher quality components) and the internals of the MHZ are not configured in the same way as the A8000. All I know is it sounds bloody good with the A30 and the service I have had from Puresound been superb!!

All that spec is the same as the MHZS including the type of capacitors ,the opa2604 op-amp, the transport mech, even the dac is claimed to use a proprietary 24 Bit 192KHz D/A converter, I'm sure you seen what was under the hot melted down shield in the MHSZ player:D
It even has the same upsampling

I did once repair a MHZS so know it quite well, I just hope the Puresound doesn't have long thin black unshielded ribbon cables sending the I2S data the same as the MHZS:yikes:

Anyway, for 200 quid S/H you can't moan, the case is very well built and it looks pretty

To be fair i think if you opened up a lot of cd players you would be amazed at how little is in there!!!

Hi JLN yep although its not in this case how little there is its more how very close it is to the MHZS players that are about. I am surprised that at over a grand we still get the dodgy DAC. Although 200 quid for me so its more of a clear up regarding the internals compared to MHZS players.

I got mine ex dem so paid more than you but not retail. I am sure if you contacted Guy at Puresound he could give you some advice. i would not worry about what inside it - how does it sound?

Afraid thats basically the same apart from a few caps (the regulators input and output caps) , the MHZS I repaired did contain Silmic caps, I don't see any in those above pics  it says here it contains Silmics http://www.acoustic-dimension.com/puresound/pure-sound-A8000-CD-player.htm , all those caps before and after the regulation have Rubycon vent marks on the top (the K ) Silmics are Elna and use a totally different vent mark (arrow shaped)

I guess they fit whatever they have in the factory at the time of production

I bet theres a PCM1748 dac chip under that black cover ;)

£200 is a good price , certainly NOT worth the RRP € 1490.00
