Any undesirable effects of RCA Y-splitters?

This is borderline DIY but you guys are knowledgeable, so...

I'm running a new set-up: Slimdevices Transporter digital source directly into PrimaLuna Seven monoblock valve amps. I now have no feed for my sub (if I keep it). My previous amp had a signal passthrough that I fed the sub from. I thought perhaps to use RCA Y-splitters on the output of the source, and feed the amps from one leg and the sub from the other, for both splitters (so that the sub gets a stereo signal).

Will this do anything undesirable for the amp's performance? From my limited understanding this might do something to impedance somewhere. The source's output impedance is about 100R. The amps' input is about 100kR. Any problems? Should I just get the leads and try? Thanks.

Go ahead and split the signal at the source. The wire is too short to make an audible differnce. There will be no ill effects unless you use inferior Y connectors. The Monster Cable will work well for this it dosn't have to be the same as your interconnect but it would not hurt
    Good Luck rollo

IME I'd say go ahead. There will probably be a minor affect on sound quality - just a slight reduction in transparency and dynamics - but you'd never notice the difference except in a fast A-B comparison.

Thanks - I was hoping for replies along those lines :) I suppose I could also ask the dealer to add a passthrough socket to the amps when he delivers them and takes back his loaners but I'm not sure I want to start modifying amps even before I see them. I'll probably go ahead then and locate a pair of good quality splitters.

    Steve,

IIRC you have a Velodyne DD series sub., so surely you would simply take the output from the Transporter to the DD then back out to your power amps?

    Regards,

    Stuart.

You're right, but that's in my other system. But the suggestion is good and I've just done that with a different sub :) (I was trying to resist having a sub in the daily living room). I've now hooked up a smaller Linn Sizmik 10.25 and am taking a pass-through from that. That works very nicely. It does mean, however, that I would have to get two long leads if I needed to move the sub around for tuning purposes. So far, I can't detect any degradation with 1.2 m interconnects to and from the sub.
