Yes, if you want to invalidate your warranty.

Easy enough to do,but as above will invalidate your warranty

See the DigitalSpy forum for lots of info on which drives to use, plus which boxes are most suitable to "upgrade",plus this may help

Apparently so, if you can get hold of a HDD that is known to work. There is a great thread covering this subject Right here, the thread also links to other websites. I believe that the favoured 160Gb , 5400rpm, Maxtor HDD's are very hard to source at the moment and might even be 'finished'.

Invalidating your warranty is only an issue if your machine is still under warranty. Even then there are no tamperproof security stickers , etc to prove that you've been inside the machine. You've obviously just got to be careful in the manner that you do the upgrade and Sky will never know.

I'm still waiting for the twats to fix the last software 'upgrade' from september so i can claim my compensation off them. I pay £52.50 per month for Sky+ and live pause has been unreliable and broken since september.. This and the recording facility was one of the main reasons that i upgraded from normal Sky in the first place.

ta,I don't care about warrantys, the machine are rock solid and olnly ocst 100 quid anyway

    thats for the links

I'm in for £52.50 as well, having got one int he kitchen, but 40GB isn't enough at Christmas.I think the 5400s have been superseeded by the 7200s and I don't know if they work

mine did that for a bit, I thought the disk was knackered. Stopped after a while though
Been thinking about putting a 250gb disk in for a while but tbh mostly for the sake of pulling it to pieces and feeling like I've achieved something by taking the lid off. 40gig is generally enough for me.

40 gig would be enough for me too if i could find the time to actually watch the 12 episodes of 'The 4400' that I've got on there at the moment.
I never seem to be able to find the time though...
Series record failed the other week too, so i missed episode 17 of LOST. Luckily one of my work buddies has it on VCR. good old VCR eh ?

    £52.50 / month?
I thought if your subscription was over £30/month Sky+ was included for free?
Perhaps that is for new customers only?

Jeez! 600 notes / PA for a couple hundred channels of sh*te!

BTW. We have plain vanilla sky and was thinking of sky+, but as the whole thing is only for my wife's (dubious) benefit, stuff that! ;)

Very valid points Rod, and to be perfectly honest I could also probably do without Sky altogether as it is my missus and the kids who mainly use it.
Then again if i was to give up every single 'non essential' luxury item that i purchase throught a typical year, then life would be very dull indeed.
Most of the programs that we watch are documentary type programs ( mostly Animal/Nature type - with a bit of technology threown in for good measure) I also like to watch the odd football match especially English premier league.
Basically I have a reasonably paid job, I have a reasonable amount of disposable income each month, nobody in my family really goes without anything for the sake of having Sky+ so why not, i can afford it and life is just too short and you only get one chance at it in Sids world - despite what some religious loonies may have me believe.......

Whoops forgt my good humoured :D & ;)

Nah, Sid, I wasn't criticising you for having sky+. I just thought I was being ripped off for £40 odd quid a month and didn't think sky+ would be much of an increase! I need to drop some channels I think.

You don't pay extra for sky+ per month, you buy the box afaik. The sky subs are the same, just depends on what and how many channels you have. Unless I've grossley misread the situation?

You're probably right, I haven't checked since we got it years ago. I think we have all the channels and movies, but minus sport.

If you are a current Sky customer, how much is it to upgrade to Sky+?

Until Sky did a recent 'upgrade' to the software i thought that Sky+ was the best bit of Auido/Visual/Gadget that i'd ever bought. It is brilliant, especially if you are a shift worker like me. I know that there are many different programme recorders , etc out there but nothing is as integrated and easy to use as Sky+.
There seems to be some issuess with the instant rewind/pause and PIN number requset at the moment. These issues only manifested themselves on many people boxes after the september software upgrade, so it obviously wasn't tested for bugs very well. My Sky+ box had worked perfectly until then.

My £52.50 covers me for the top package and also a totally independant second box in one of the kids rooms (also top package) so the value isn't too bad. It would be ideal if i had a paying lodger, (instead of my 18 year old daughter, or should that be my 18 year old hotel guest....:) ) ( I love her really ...)

Yes,the additional tenner is for their 'Sky Box Multiroom', i.e a completly independant Sky+ box in another room which requiresa second dush.I have one in the kitchen for sport mainly.

We got our multi-room for free when we signed up for sky+, didn't need a second dish.
Sid: I still have that sodding pin request. Anything rated over 15. Hadn't realised it was a bug again though, thought it was an 'upgrade'

We sometimes get the pin request and not on sky+ either. Hadn't realised that it was only on over 15 movies. Twats probably isn't a strong enough word for them.
