    Hi there
Have just inherited some old hi-fi and wonder if it's any good . Don't know whether to keep and try to get it going or take it to the local tip!

There's a turntable with label that says Transcriptor hydraulic reference turntable and a Quad 303 amp and I think a Quad 33 tuner.
If anyone can advise it would be great.

    Thanks BM

Yes they are good, just place a search on Ebay, it will give you an idea of prices desirability etc. Keith.

    Well.............., thanks all.
The deck looks like the picture except the previous owner has cut away at the perspex lid to get it into his cabinet! But you've given us food for thought and having now 'googled' , it definitely won't be the tip!

you can get a new lid for about £80. I had one of these TT's with an ex-bbc SME 3009 mkII silver rewired tonearm, sounded very good actually, despite the panning its got in some areas, the bearing is very smooth as it runs on a PTFE (teflon) thrust plate, the "pods" are designed to decouple the vinyl, if you do sell this make sure to drain the bearing of oil (you can use cotton buds) and make sure there is no hydraulic fluid in the well under the platter. You are best packing the platter separately in bubble wrap as it can damage the bearing if posted in-situ - or indeed (par for the course turned upside down!.) Transcriptors have a shop on ebay and you can get all the odds and sods there.

for original poster - the turntable is well known for appearing in the classic movie ' clockwork orange ' hence the above :)

It is something of a classic table, the quad stuff perhaps a little less so, but still popular amongst some.

Same here, it descended into an abyss of randomness for a while! Thought it was a private joke/code with swapped round letters at first

Why don't you hook it all up and play some music? First you'll find out if it all works before the dreaded fleabay, but you might just want to keep them.
