    Hi guys,

Been on here a while and have even posted every Preston guild or so... I find this a very entertaining and knowledgeable forum and hope you can help me.

I have a couple of issues with some of my ageing kit and need to put them into some capable hands for some tlc.

I'm reluctant to use my local repair shop as last time they costed a repair to a PC monitor they had it for months and then quoted a price more expensive than a new unit!

Anyway, what I have is a Meridian 203 Dac, which has gone quiet on one channel. I bought this from eBay about 3 yrs ago and was very happy with the improvements it brought to my old Marantz CD52-II. I'd really like to have this back in service, although I've seen some good comments regarding the Beresford DACs and wonder does the £125 or so box now beat the 203 thus making repair efforts here a bit futile?

I also have a NAD T752 AV amp which has a problem with output on the F/L channel. I've seen some discussion suggesting that this is a common problem and so would need someone who knows these quite well in order to fix and make sure I get no further issues.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm not looking for freebies or anything like that, just someone you guys know to be reputable and who will have good experience with either/both of these items.

They were bargains at the time I bought them and I really don't have the time or inclination to look for replacements if these are indeed salvagable.

    Regards
    -Chris-

    Hi Chris,

I don't know about Manchester for servicing. You could try on of the hifi shops around Manchester.

I can recommend a service guy in Sheffield, if you can get over to Sheffield. He may or may be able to help but it could be worth a ring. ask for Darran. Click on the link for details.

    Thanks guys,

Have emailed but no replies as yet. I'll try to phone them when I get a minute.
I did hear back from a Meridian agent and it's looking like £90 to even get it looked at. Not sure that'll be worthwhile as I reckon it will only be a dry joint or blown cap, what 1/2 an hour and about 2 quid worth of bits?

    Wish I could bloody solder!

    Dooleys Hifi

Macclesfield, right on the high street up the hill nearly opposite the Cheshire Gap Deli. (get some lunch!)

Dooleys have a website, Petes the electrical engineer in the white coat and he's brilliant. David and Mike are absolutely superb too, and highly knowledgeable. Dealt with them for years, and they got me into hifi - even though I'm based in north manchester I regularly make a pilgrimage to Macc.

    Well worth a call.
