I've got the week off starting 29th October. We planned on going for a cheap and cheerful last minute week away somewhere but she'll only be able to get a few days off so it's now looking MOre like a few days.
So, thinking of a few nights in London. I know the museums and obvious sites, but does anyone know of anything in particular happening that week that would be worth catching?

An interesting looking installation at Battersea Power Station of Video art set amongst the ruins of the site, including leaking roofs etc.

Fancy a show, and that's not your usual thing, try the Blue Man Group, I saw itin Vegas, it was brilliant.

Tate Modern for culture and something to eat, it's the view that does it really.

there'll be lots of people barging about the place and generally acting like good little ants. then there may be some bombs or threats of them to spice things up. transport will be by the lowest bidder and for the benefit of shareholders or from a surly provider with various interesting bigotries which you can be regaled with for the sum of 30p per 200 yards or whatever it is.
finally everything will cost twice as much as it does elsewhere unless it;s last minute show tickets from an independant booking agent in which case you'll pay 1000% more than you would normally.
personally i avoid the stinking (literally, not that you'll be able to smell it after an hour or two as your nose will be crusted up with black goo) place like the plague. had to go there earlier this year on business and it jsut reaffirmed my opinion of the place.
btw this applies to most big cities - i reckon you should go mountain biking instead.

    Thanks for the replies.

I've spent a fair aMOunt of time in London in the past so it's MOre specific "events" and such that I'm interested in than permanent features.

The blue man group is a good idea. Anyone seen the MOnty Python show?

Due to see Spamalot in the next few weeks.

I saw the Producers a couple of weeks ago. Very good.

The best place to get tickets if the official ticket booth in Leicester Square. Its in the middle of the Square below the CCTV control room. You can only get tickets on the day in person and they are mostly half price. Its run by the theartres so its not one of the ticket tout booths.

Its run by the Society of London Theartres.

    http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/tkts

It is the only place aloud to sell cheap theartre tickets!

The only reason I know this is I used to work for Westminster Trading Standards.

    Lastminute.com

We were given a suprise hotel stay in London.

I later found out they booked it through Lastminute.com and chose a secret hotel. you choose how many stars and what area and you get a super cheap deal. We stayed in a Hotel over looking green Park near Hyde Park corner including valet parking. It cost £99. I got the tariff from the Hotel normaly it was ove £300 per night.

Its worth a look? if you dare.

Wouldn't trust lastminute.com with one penny of my money, let alone booking a hotel.

When things go wrong with them, you call India, get no information, no apology and no satisfaction.

If the company goes bust, I'll dance on their balance sheets.

    But that's just my opinion.

    Rant over.

I take it you had a bad experience with them?

If you did not get a satisfactory response then you can contact ABTA. Or your local trading standards.

You are quite right I do not like call call centres UK or abroad, you never get the attention you need or deserve. I've used Lastminute a few times now and not had any problems yet.

Anyone else had problems getting on here over the last hour or so?

    Anyhooo....

Transport booked. We get into London 1pm sunday, and leave 7.30pm tuesday.

I tried booking Spamalot tickets earlier, but it started telling me unable to book, and then would only show availablity for the remainder of this week. Tried again just now and managed to book them for MOnday :)

Just need to find a hotel now and decide how to fill the rest of the time.

Thanks for the replies... keep em coming.
