It is the Arcam MS250 Music Server

I was at the official press introduction and have played with it. It was vey buggy a year ago (got it to crash very easily), but it now seems very stable. It had some nice features and sounded very good (like a CD192).

I have a full PDF with details if you are interested.

No, it isn't. It has a CD-R drive, with which you can also rip CD's to the internal 400 Gb hard disk and you can write back compilations to CD. Of course, you can make it work over a network like with the Squeezebox.

It is also a multi-room unit, with 4 independant zones (first zone with digital output).

Here a run-down of the main features:

so it's a pc with 4 audio cards and some music server s/w with pretty standard features (although the codec count is abysmal) and a cd burner.
dare i ask how much this costs?
sorry just another pc in a pretty box for too much money. imho

Julian, you are entitled to think that and you are probably right. But then, this won't be a product for you... ;)

I say this is a product with a well designed user interface and good quality sound in a neat package from a respectable audio company, which makes it pretty special at any price, especially for the tecno-fobes.

Depends on your point of view.

yeah i know i;m not the intended market but it's galling that you could probably put something similar together for half the cost even if it meant getting a bod in to install a home network for you.
my kak old p2 400 can serve 2 squeezeboxes without a problem and that's worth about 50p on e-bay.
