    Dear all,

being a complete duffer when it comes to computers, I need some help.

I want to record some vinyl on my Mac, then export it to iTunes and burn some CD's. I'd also like to store some at 24/96 and burn it to DVD.

I have an M Audio Firewire connected to the corresponding interface on the Powerbook but obviously need something to enable recording the tt output onto the harddrive. Any suggestions would be apreciated :)

    Merlin.

I think this would do it -

TT > Phono amp > sound card

I dont know the M audio, does it have RCA input?

Thanks Mr P but it's recording software I need. The Mac does not allow for recording from an external source to the hard drive it appears. The Phono Stage is going into the M Audio, this then goes to the firewire input on the Mac, and I can see the signal coming in - just can't recordi it :(

    Thanks for the tips guys.

I actually downloaded AudioX which seems to do a good job quality wise, but does not allow track indexing and is a pain to export to iTunes.

Looks like the Roxio Toast is the kiddy. Will purchase tomorrow :)

Do let us know how you get on.

I had a very enlghtening conversation with a senior tech at the M-Audio UK office, who told me that the DACs in the Superdac were the same as those in the Delta 1010. I pressed him further as to the ADCs/DACs in the Firewire Audiophile, to which he replied that they're not far off but start to fall apart at 24/96. So, it may be more productive to sample at 88.2Khz to avoid dithering problems when down-sampling for CD burning.

    Just a thought.

Incidentally, I had a problem whereby my PowerBook would kernel panic whenever I tried to play a Dolby Digital or DTS signal through the Audiophile (To non-Macatistas, a kernel panic is like a blue screen of death in Windows but a tasteful grey  )

Merlin: have you tried hooking up to a surround decoder?
