BTW - intrigued by the result of your preamp search!

You know what? I actually will try this!

What cream was it? Some have dimethicone in it and I suspect that this may be, if anything, what is working here.

If my system sounds 'softer' then I'll know that it's auto suggestion at work.

Enough talking ...... lets get rubbing, gentleman ...... well, you know what I mean.

I've tried putting some cream on a cd - but gonna let it dry a bit as I'm going out now anyway...!

It's just a variation on the old trick of making sure the lazer can't see the writing on the reverse side of the CD.

Tests have shown that increases in error correction correspond with this writing - as the CD is tanslucent, the lazer tries to read it.

Jeez. If you're so bored with your music collection you think smearing hand cream on it improves your enjoyment, you really need to acquire some new music, quickly.

    I agree

Also I dont think some hand cream spinning around your cd players internals at 200rpm is going to do your electronics any good in the long run.

From a cream manufacturers POV it's brilliant. Sell the anti wrinkle cream to some daft cow who thinks it'll take 10 years off her haggard face, and sell the same product to her deluded husband who thinks it will turn his Pioneer DVD player into a Esoteric X-01. Genius.

Tweaking is neurotic behaviour, and a complete waste of one's limited time on this earth. I reckon everyone enjoys their hifi more when they stop arsing about with it and just listen to it instead. There is no greater upgrade in hifi than discovering fantastic music that is new to you.

    Here endeth the lesson.

    And guess what? It's measurable;)

Nipples are worth tweaking. Again typically this results in something measurable.
