Children, mere children, the lot of you. No wonder you're always squabbling...

I always heard that squabbling comes with age, after 60, of course... ;)

    And kids... :p

No, no, as you'll find, Antonio, in a little while, you'll become a mature gentleman, serene and untroubled, except when you have to dong them with your ear trumpet to remind them to keep pushing your wheelchair.

Kids? Daren't talk to them, as they're nearly as big as I am and I'm frightened they might push the wheelchair down the stairs for the insurance money.

I heard that 60 is the new 40...

I have read most of this thread - couldn't believe how quickly it had progressed to several pages from a standing start while I was away for the weekend.

God willing I will become 58 and a grandfather -both for the first time:D-in the next couple of weeks.

I love reading all this stuff, even try some of it but can't quite see what there is to get hot under the collar about.

Tweaking doen't preclude listening or vice-versa, does it?

Maybe not, but Moog did, and Sky and Ward Swingle - One of my first (and still a favourite) LP, Jazz Sebastian Bach by the Swingle Singers.;)

You are missing the point. That to read about someone's musical tastes and preferences if a far more use to developing ones own enjoyment of a hifi system than page after page of audiophool bollox and compulsive lunacy.

No ones trying to be clever - but I did notice the speed with which Antonio removed the word "Chesky" from his post:D

I think it does. Tweaky audiophools seem to spend an inordinate amount of time comparing the treble shimmer on their copy of (for example) Dark Side of the Moon before and after (for example) lathing it, and much less time just listening to music, especially music that is new to them. Obsessing about hifi directly interferes with the amount of time anyone spends purely listening to music for enjoyment and enlightenment, for its own sake rather than to test the depth of the bass, the width of the soundstage, or the quality of the recording. Audiophilia is the enemy of music.

If your original post was done just as a wind-up, then IMO you should take the flak as your due. If it was done straight-faced, then you shouldn't be suprised that people were/are sceptical about smearing stuff on a CD with possibly damaging results for CD and CDP.

Jolly good. Say ten Hail Marys and five How's Yer Fathers just to be on the safe side.

You also shouldn't be surprised by references to mental illness.

Take a straw poll out side your local Tescos as to whether such behavior is considered sane by society in general.

"Society in general" parted company with sanity a long while back.

Witness its obsession with useless celebrities, soap operas, Big Brother and other examples of The Moronic Inferno. Makes hi-fi tweakery seem positively healthy.

Cheers - just couldn't let this sniping go on - hopefully it's now nipped in the bud but it's certainly made me review my thoughts about forums and beginning to understand why many are reluctant to post who have interestng things to say.

Ah well only a few weeks and on holiday!

Personally, i just tend to sit on the fence myself nowadays. Life's too short to get het up about other peoples opinions and we all have a right to think what we do.
I do however find some of the arguments on here entertaining and even hilarious at times so i do pop on to have a laugh after a tough day at work.

Some of us take great pleasure in winding people up and some of us can be too serious too but this in turn creates a good balance. After all, if we all had the same opinions, wouldn't life be DuLL?

Lighten up fellas it's only hi fi.

Ditto. If we can't take the piss out of each other, we'll become even more bored :D.

Actually I like the way this thread turned into one about music. It's a rarity, even though it's not a serious one. I thought the best thing about this place is the contributions made by the likes of SSB and Tones in "The Food of Love" (sic) forum. I for one would like to see more of that.
