Surely a properly-designed turntable will rotate at 33.3 and 45 rpm at the flick of a switch? Unless, of course, SSB is building his own turntable from scratch, but he's never struck me as the DIY type.

Ah, no, that's a feature of the record. The original vinyl version of Raw Power, produced by David Bowie, sounds like it was recorded on a cheap cassette player, although the music itself is top notch. Iggy's later re-mix, released on CD only AFAIK, is mixed VERY LOUD INDEED with plenty of bass.

There are LP reissues, piccadilly records have them, and very good they are too :) Go on uncle, you know you want too!

Doubt that. Ian is interested in the music you see.

The copy I've got is an LP reissue. I've also heard the much later Iggy remaster (which was better in that it had some bass but is still maximum loud). I think the reissue I have is Simply Vinyl and is the original mussy disaster.

    Absolutely.

My enjoyment of hifi and improved far more through reading Ian's music recommendations than through applying any neurotic tweak hailed as the second coming on an audio chat room.

Did Melorib. Did. That's what we've been saying. We did. We realised it was all a load of bollox and now try to save others from the same sad fate. Ian does more good in that area than most. His enthusiasm for the music helps to remind others what it is all about. He is the undisputed audio guru around these parts.

Well, I never wanted to be a guru, but if the hours are good and it pays well, I'm happy to take the job.

Antonio, make a post about your favourite record, go on, I dare you.

Trim pots, for precise adjustment depending on local conditions. A job that takes a few seconds, but worth doing since the pots are there.

    Not DIY, hell no.
