Yep a P233MMX laptop with 64MB RAM. I am going to see if I can turn into a wireless modern PC running XP :D

I am going to try and modify XP to such an extent it becomes Windows 2000. Oh and it has to run Firefox 1.5.

I am not very optimistic but it will be a lot of fun.

PS I am going out on a bender tonight in case people think I am so sad! :D

My dad is currently running it on a 400MHz 64mb laptop. I think it should be possible to put it on a 233MHz. More ram would REALLY help though! Good luck!

...why not just run 2K in the first place? It is much better!

I don't have 2000. Also more RAM would cost more than the laptop is worth :) That is the problem.

    Why not just install linux?
    http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/

Support for wireless, office apps, mozilla etc. all included and it will run happily on a 233

I think he wants the challenge. AP is certainly that!

If it is not for the challenge, then you are mad AT. Install Linux!

Surely you just need to allow the relevant ports in the router, I think if they are not SIP aware or are SIP aware there are changes you can make, whats the modem?

    Ditch the laptop.

The laptop is great, only crappy bloatware made it crap.

I have changed all the ports in the router and setup the DMZ for it. It worked fine on my old crappy Connexant.

My router is a Linksys WAG35WG (UK).

So far using the standard XP installation its running quite smoothy. I am running it in classic view in 16-bit colour depth though. I am trying to setup the WIFI card now. There is a few seconds delay when opening new windows but there was when it was running Linux.

Once I have stripped out all the crap I should have a WIFI laptop running XP. Who needs a £500 laptop when a £50 will do and is more fun :p:?

I don't know because I am not going to bother installing flash. Very very few sites I use have flash on them anyway. In terms of the web browsing I intend to with it the BBC news site is about as demanding as it gets :D

I still haven't got the WIFI card to talk to my router yet, its installed it can see the network but cannot ping or anything.
