found one of these at a reasonable price, has anyone had any experiences with them?? sound quality etc...?

i am thinking if it doesnt make much difference to the meridian, i could always sell it on.....

curious. audiosynthesis do make Dacs, and they are 'ultra analogue' to some ears, but I only know of the Dax product range (dax2, Dax Decade, Dax Discrete) so I think dsm is the first.

    but I see from googling:
"We have the award-winning DAX-2 on special for $3695, save $1000! We also have a very limited number of trade-ins of the earlier, and still outstanding, Audio Synthesis DSM units with outboard power supplies, only $1250, orig. $3150. You will not find a better processor under $3000" and
"1994 model, separate power supply, $2500 retail"

I think you are into hifi archaeology, but if price is low why not ..

however, [its 20-bit, 8x oversampling and I really dont know whether] it would make much difference [compared to the dac in- the Meridian 206b - if it did then it is upgrade time anyway ...

and a fully loaded (BG Balanced) Dax Decade was being sold here for £1500 ... That would make a difference

i think its deffo worth a punt at £300 then.
I`m in the camp of "newer is not always better". far from it in fact.
    Its a 1997 unit too.

I`ll let you know how i get on with it :)

    edited to add:

Had some pics sent and some info. its the audio synthesis dax using the ultra analogue chip.

well, got it, and spannered it in. sounds great, bigger sound than the meridian, with more prominent midrange, and sounds cleaner and arier to boot.

    now for the porn:
