Mint condition - has remote and balanced output option. Have decided to sell - £2200ish new - looking for £995 - mint condition - has original crate/manual et al. best active preamp I have heard - beats Conrad Johnsons, Cary etc but have decided that passive works better with my Krell. Solid fantastic build by German company. Do not come up for sale often this one at a bargain price - links below - mine is the same, black with gold knobs:

Very possibly - however just as one can only ride one bike at a time - one can only listen to one preamp

    I suppose?

Anyhow - at the moment it's up for grabs

Price drop to £950 - otherwise may keep it, still sounding very very good. Decisions decisions!

Have fitted matched NOS Mullards Valves as suggested- this has now taken this preamp into super astonishing league - never heard anything like it. It was about the best active pre i'd heard with standard valves but with these. . . .

    ahhhh

So guess what - keeping it, thanks Koi for the tip. So why am I bothering to report this in a for sale section - because Zero Gain is about help and advice amongst other things, so here's se advice - if anyone out there was considering this, was curious etc and finds another for sale - GRAB IT BETWEEN YOUR TEETH (Bit heavy though). What a secret gem.

Does this mean that you now prefer the Eklipse to the Promitheus?

Hi - good question for those following my saga of tube active versus transformer passive - yes I think I possibly do, but to be perfectly honest it's simply a different sound rather than any differences in quality. There's body and warmth with the Eklipse - there is detail and more space with the prmitheus. the devil is that tvc's get better with use, so may be a while before I decide between the two, after all can't really use both can I? But- having said that i have a pair of speakers upstairs looking out of the window!

or run the eklipse and promitheus in series and get a warm full bodied sound that is also detailed and spacious :)

or possibly a cold, shut in sound that lacks detail :(

I'll report back in after a serious listening schedule over a period of settling in - of course valves need to settle in too. Come to think of it I need to settle in. . . . .

Got the valves off of a valve hoarder - but they are about around £25/30 matched afraid can't say re mono blacks but the mullards do make a difference. I gather it's a case of try and see what you like with Audio Valve!
