Considering changing my Audionote dac1.1x ( 13 months old) for an Audio Synthesis DAX2 since these seem to have fallen to sensible money at last.

Does anyone have any experience of both these DACS? If so does the DAX 2 represent a clear upgrade to the 1.1x?

    Thanks in advance guys

I have a dac 1.1 and find it extremely underwhelming in stock form.

I dont' think you would do far wrong to change, its no better than a £400 cd IMO, tho let me know, as I could always do with a spare to modify.

    Gee Wizz Data...

That's a bit damning isn't it? My poor little DAC is crying now!

I've really enjoyed the Audionote but am always looking for more...sad sack that I am.

Say, does anyone know of any reviews of the DAX2?

I know this is old hat, but can only reccomend trying a few at home, its the only way as Im sure you already know :)

One of the things Ive learned from Zerogain is to ignore other peoples reccomendations. Their ears rarely tell them the same as mine tell me.*

*except for those rare individuals who seem to hear things the same!

Best you can hope for really are reccomendations at each kind of price point from people here, and their interpretation of sonic characteristics.

What price point are you considering DACs at?

    all the best

Good to hear from you Bottle-neck,

As always I don't so much have a budget - I operate on whim, as befits a hobby ( I feel) . I never buy new as I think this is less fun - any idiot can go into a shop and put down his Visa card.

I have never benefitted from demos as it is only in the long term that I seem to be able to get the measure of a component.

I just saw that the DAX2 has really come down in value since the introduction of the Descrete and thought I wonder....

its not bad in any way, just with all that hype, you think its going to be fab, and find an audioalchemy dac betters it.

I have mine with nicads and have disconnected the analogue filter.

I have yet to put some in lundahl transformers and do away with coupling caps altogether. these really do make big changes, the caps.

Its reputation would make me try it if I was in the market. What are they going for? Has it got a built in volume control aswell? Have you heard the DAC 64? certainly one of the best buys at 1,200 used price.. (IMO)

Other DACs reccomended on the forum all the time for those prices or less are the benchmarc DAC (900 ish), CAL's if you want something warm at the 400 used mark, Bel Cantos, Audio Synthesis etc.

    happy listenin.

Thanks for your suggestions. Guess I can always sell the thing if I don't like it.

    All comments greatfully received!!
