Just wondered how widespread/varied AV useage is on the forum.

    Option 2!
I spent less on my DVD player, add-on AV amp, centre and rear surrounds than on my last cartridge! Less than half now I think about it.
A bit of subtle surround sound is good when adding to the visual experience, but just distracting for music.

I have a Cyrus AV system with M&K speakers, but its now separate from my hi-fi.

Makes for a crowded living room, but separating the two has been worth it for the better music reproduction.

Everything through my 2-channel HiFi, and making use of my DAC for digital TV and DVD. It's very rare I watch films, maybe something like one a month, and even that's off TV rather than renting/buying a DVD, so getting a full on HC would be rather frivolous! I'd MUCH rather put my cash into getting a decent 2 channel setup.

I've got a really crappy Yamaha AV thing that's better than nowt, but to be honest I don't really care. Could have ticked two boxes though, as my hi-fi is in a different room from the AV (such as it is)

I'll second that. Taking that huge lump of plastic (TV) from between my speakers made my system sound much better than any single box upgrade could have done.
The only way I'd now integrate an AV and stereo system now would be if I used a front projector, resulting in nothing in between the speakers.

I used to have a separate room for hifi and av like some of you guys. Moving to the UK means that space is a premium and it's now no longer possible. I'm going to get some of my system sent over and build from that.

I don't really like TV, but my wife does, so we need to get one unfortunately! I'd prefer a little wide-screen (a little LCD number would be cool) and a decent projector for movies.

PS Agree with everyone about the Tv between speakers. A real music killer that one.

"My main system has 3+ channels of AV" but only when i switch on the processor and 2 more power amps.
and then it's 1 dvd player, 1 processor, 1 stereo preamp, 2 stereo power amps, 2 monoblock power amps, and 1 offboard psu.
or alternatively, call it 1 pioneer dvd player, and 7 cyrus boxes.
    (oh, and a tv)

Currently, I run the TV etc. through the 2 channel Hi-Fi; however, in the next week or so I'll be moving the house around a little. The TV etc. will go into a seperate room where I'll set up an old surround amp I had lurking in a cupboard and wire up a cheap set of Polk surround 'speakers I picked up the other day.

Rather looking forward to seperating the systems into their own spaces.

I run two distinct systems; one 2 channel hi-fi, one 7.1 AV. They're both in the same room but as that room was two rooms that were knocked into one, they both exist in their own dedicated space.

well, in my case it's both separated and integrated.

av processor, rear amp, rears are separated.
front outputs ov processor goes through my stereo system - thus they're integrated.

    it works wery well.

The hi-fi is in the living room with the furniture arranged round it. Upstairs in the backroom is the tv/av. Something I lived very happily without for 10 years but got when I moved this year. I rarely watch it but it is brilliant for opera and live concerts on DVD.
