I am a real fan of Avalon speakers.
They look fabulous and sound very nice.
Are here members who own or have experience with Avalons?

Eidolon is one of the speakers that should be played an infinitum to whoever believes that its only ATC or PMC that plays accurate hifi.

I'm not that rich to be an owner but I had a luck to hear it in almost perfect room conditions. Certainly it was one of the best sounds I've ever heard and very memorable experience - the rest of the system was Esoteric transport/DAC with Pass Labs upper echalons of X series. Clean, natural, effortless, dynamic, fast, deep, wide, tall - you name it.

Yes,the Eidolon is on list if I ever winn the Jackpot:D .
But I also like the smaller Avalons, heard the Symbol , Arcus and the Classic.
The Classic with a top amp/cd player combo was very very nice.

I would also rate Avalon as the premier Loudspeaker manufacturer today. All the models I have heard have been superb.

As far as ATCs go - they are a good speaker, and you have to remember that they will go an awful lot louder than and Eidelon, come complete with amplification and cost half the money. That said, there is no comparison.

not all ATC's come with amplifiers built in.. only some are active.. they have a huge range of standard passive loudspeakers.

They wont necesserilly go louder, get a good enough amp behind the eidolon, and i doubt you would be left wanting for ANY more volume, certainly the blood coming out your ears would be a bad sign.

Unfortunately, the Accuton drivers in the Eidelons will not handle much above 100db continuous (I know of one guy who has had to have his midrange drivers replaced twice). This is fine for most people, but if you need to go louder, active ATCs will do it with ease.

I've heard that the Birdseye maple veneer option also starts to come unstuck with dB levels of 100 and over. Avalon purposefully placed crayola's down the pole piece to stop the cone reaching those levels where the veneer could be at risk.

Crayola are the best, hence Avalon didn't compromise here. Hats off to 'em for that.

I don't know about drain pipe, perhaps sewage pipe would be a better description?

Actually it is a 'soil stack pipe' I believe, is there really a crayola crayon in each Avalon speaker, which colour do they use, or do they just buy an assortment of colours, and how does a crayon stop the delamination of the veneer?

The crayons are packed into the drivers pole piece using a coordinate measuring machine offering about 0.5micron accuracy. This ensures the crayola are exactly the right spot for the rear of the cone to bump in and thus limit excursion and ultimately SPL. Et-voila, no veneer damage.

This is a cut away diagram to better illustrate this heady subject:

As far as I know, Avalon are the only people in the world who have the tooling and knowhow to do this.

The higher end models have upto 5 crayolas in the pole piece! No information on colour used but intelligence gleamed from a competitor reverse engineering this technology suggests its apricot - no doubt one of Neil Patel's favourite fruits.

They're obviously not that clever because a third of the driver is missing. That can't sound good and also completely negates the benefits of the crayola's. Accuton/Avalon do it properly.
