    hmm
    well the mono's arrived
seller told me they are just over four years old bought ex-demo. Serial number is a 91 prefix and they have some really crappy binding post for bare cable not plugs.
Problem is, i didnt ask about age before i hit the buy now option:rolleyes:
    Not a happy bunny:mad:

    Nightmare  .

What was the seller's feedback like on e-Bay ?
You never know he may be alright (not everybody in the world is a barsteward :) ).
If not, maybe a call to an AVI distributer to see what can be done. A quick Check Up/Overhaul may not be that expensive and the guy how was flogging them maybe wasn't savvie enough to think of it.

Sellers feedback is A1,and he says they were serviced in August with report available.
Seems strange that they are faulty.
I would pull his contact details, and give him a ring.

    Paul.

If AVI keep a track of all repairs/services/upgrades then they should be able to give a history of the model from the serial number. Penance, if you do get a reply ask him where he's based and check out the AVI dealers in that region.

I'm begining to sound like Sherlock Holmes :Quad: !

Did he mention if he'd been using them or if they had been boxed up for a while ?
It's a touchy subject :duck: but maybe give them a bit of time to get up to operating temperature and then see how they are.

I can honestly say, they aint boxy at all, quite the opposite, Andy, however they do take a couple of DAYS to warm up, plus if you paid by paypal, do you not get some form of insurance cover?. Wm

    I paid with bank transfer:rolleyes:

Ive had a reply from the seller, he seems genuinly concerned and claims he bought them from a shop as ex-demo in 1999. He said he will get back to me.
Ive mailed AVI to try and clarify the serial numbers.
WM, ill give them a bit longer to warm up, just gutted i paid over the odds for an older product

sorry to hear of your problems

binding posts - mine have pretty wimpy ones too but they will accept a banana plug.

I'm sure it'll be alright in the end

Deepest sympathies Penance. I guess all you can do is copy that to the seller and see if he has a good side. Seems to me you have a case that the goods were misrepresented. Good luck. Main thing at this stage is to be polite (after all, he may have bought them under a misrepresentation himself). If you don't get any joy, or he's uncooperative, give him huge amounts of negative feedback.

he does seem quite genuine, and claims he bought them ex-demo in 1999, and as such assumed they were relativly new at the time. All very polite at the moment, i can hardly blame him if he is telling the truth.
Still leaves me with some amps that i doubt ill be able to recover the costs from, and a rather poorly bank ballance

He's effectively admitted to you that the goods have been misrepresented (even if it was an honest mistake on his part).

I would therefore attempt to undoe the sale, get a refund, and make it his responsibilty to resell them in light of the new information.

Be nice though :) .........initially :D
