I heard the Ayre CX7 (with an Ayre integrated and B&W 703's) - nothing to write home about to be honest.

Not bad but certainly not stunning.

I had a 588. Very good. Haven't heard the Ayre.

I on the other hand had the worst service I have ever encountered and it was only after three calls from TSA that he finally gave me my money back. IMO the bloke's a wrong'un

i think cdplayer have an important role in detail, timing an separation.
tell more about 588 or ayre, i listen to classic an jazz more than pop/rock

Amir, if a 'jazz machine' is what you're after I personally would go for the Meridian.

Much more groove and funk but still plenty detail.

The Ayre is no slouch but I doubt it would give you as much pleasure whilst enjoying the music :) .

Havent heard the Ayre, but I'd happily own the 588 having heard it. I use the 500 transport (as in the 588 I believe) and thats very good. I like it lots.

Only downside to it, is no ''shuffle'' button on the remote, which I rarely but occasionally miss.

For residual second hand value, Id also go with the Meridian, if youre forced to buy blind.

Best punch line of the day :D It's flatter than a witch's tit on a frosty December morn after she's been out on the tiles all nite.
Amir in answer to your question Er.....Not in my book, mind you the Krell 300i doesn't time that well either, so maybe 2 negitives may yet yeild a postive :)
