We flew to basel/mulhouse on friday am just gone. we checked in early and in a few minutes. got airside quite quickly . found that you could take anything you wanted on the plane as long as you bought it airside and weren't going to the US. obviously the shops were doings roaring trade.

arrived in france/CH bang on time.

flew back monday. slightly different story. plane delayed by a couple of hours and then the idiot swiss airport staff decided it was a good idea to hand search all the passengers and their hand luggage (again) as we left the gate to walk onto the plane. So it took them another 90 mins to board the plane. idiots.

anyone else flying this last few days?

Well I don't see the threat that young mothers pose with milk bottles for their baby.

Has anyone actually seen in the media, etc. any technical discussion of how you can make up a bomb on board a flight using liquids.

I personally don't think it could be done.

Anyway, all this at least got the "war" off the news for a week or two and gave Bush another chance to prove we are all fighting the "War on Terror".

well the basic theory would be liquid explosive and then the detonators in bits to manufacture on the plane. Could be carried on by more than one person....

But its been possible for years so whats so special now ?

Government's love to "prove" they are making you safer

Its all a big excuse to get more draconian laws in to give them control and power over you.

We are now the 52nd state of the USA behind Israel, and that makes us more a target than ever. Out govt has put us all at risk, whilst the politicians get life protection.

Incidenatally, the high price of oil benefits george bush, as he is the director on at least 3 oil companies, and has shares in arms manufacturers at the least, maybe even directorships. Look who stands to benefit from the war.

Bush is actually by far the greatest threat to world peace, and sometimes, I think the other side, whilst being unilaterally labelled terrorsists, have some just cause. In many ways the US and UK govts have acted like terrorists.

Its odd though, I agree with some muslims that we in some respects, drinking, lewd women, are an immoral society. However, some aspects of sharia law are rather immoral.

Then again, we do show a lot of help to muslims around the world in aid.

Kick the totalitarian regime out before its too late.

Surely a bottle of duty free vodka, a handkerchief wick and a box of matches and you've got a pretty damaging molotov cocktail without recourse to Chemistry sets.

I've just been emailed this ..........

    London 16th August:

A public school teacher was arrested today at Gatwick Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule, and a calculator.
At a morning press conference, Home Secretary John Reid said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement.
He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the Met Police with carrying weapons of maths instruction.
"Al-gebra is a problem for us," Reid said.
"They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute values.
They use secret code names like 'x` and `y` and refer to themselves as `unknowns, `but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with co-ordinates in every country.
As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle".
When asked to comment on the arrest, Prime Minister Tony Blair, speaking from his holiday resort before the planes stopped flying, said, "If God had wanted us to have better Weapons of Maths Instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes."

    tickled me !

Oh yes and as to offensive weapons .........

I had a teaspoon confiscated at heathrow, I was told " these are, in the right hands deadly weapons" I replied " why would someone trained in kung fu need a teaspoon, other than to eat his bio yoghert ?"
