Micro Fibre cloths are perfect for cleaning HiFi equipment (and perfect for car cleaning) - Tesco own brand £0.99 are the best of the 'over the counter' ones

    Thanks Decca.

What a great bunch of frindly people here.

The reason why I particularly mentioned baby wipes is because with a brand new bra...err...kid just born, we have an ample supply of baby wipes...but your tip for the micro fibre cloths is great and I will get some of those too.

    Cheers Chum

One of the best Anti-Static cleaners I've found for Hi-Fi stuff is Servisol 'Foam Cleanser 30' , it comes in a blue/lilac aerosol and is used by many hi-fi dealers i've visited to clean their display items. The Micro fibre cloths from Tescos ( advised above) are excellent, also pick up a pack of Tesco's own brand cheapo 'J Cloths' these are excellent cleaning cloths and lint free.
Once everything is clean you can simly keep the dust off by using one of the new Pledge micro fibre dusters. They attract dust like a magnet and get into all the nooks and crannies.

Baby wipes are for cleaning babies bums, your Hi-Fi really doesn't need a nice layer of Johnsons Moisturiser, Aloe Vera or Bacteriacide smearing all over it......

I'd agree with Sid ......I've used the pledge type on heavily soiled SH gear..mainly to shift years of crud, then cleaned off the silicone polish with kitchen towel.

    Thanks everybody.

Your generosity with kind advice is very welcome indeed.

I think I may just kidnap next doors cleaner and get her to work her wonders on my components !!!

    Cheers to all

It is the silicone which provides the glossy look but is also the main attractor of dust. It is a vicious circle, the more dust you have, the more silicone is used to clean it.

I use a regular duster and Sainsburys Glass Cleaner :)

I used to use WD40 to give a nice sheen to brushed aluminium fascias but someone on here recommended Armourall Protectant which I already use in the car. Works a treat :D

A water based product such as Armorall would probably work well, given sufficient dwell time and properly buffed. Using this approach you could get different levels of gloss. Amourall gives a very high gloss, Autoglym would give a high - medium (depending on how long it dwells), One Grand would give a very mat finish and 303 Aerospace Protectant would provide a satin finish

Don't use WD40, use something with a teflon component. It will help speed up later cleaning setions.

For cleaning electroinc I use isopropanol. none of these fancy additives that cleaners have added to "improve" the product.

I cleaned my tft screen (sneezed on it) about 5 weeks ago now. There is still not one spec of dust or dirt at all. I am begining to think I will never have to reclean my hifi again. dust just does not stick to it!.

In truth i do not know if any normal shops sell it, but its not restricted so order it of any chemical supplier.

I am not kidding this stuff works perfectly

congrats on the screaming bra...er bundle of joy. Have fun sleeping for the next 3 years =-)
