In an attempt to avoid the obvious candidates, I'd like to nominate The Clash. Great singles band, but I've never been able to sit through their LPs. Even the lauded London Calling sounds like so much filler to me.

Saab - McCartney on his own, you may have a point but Lennon or Lennon & McCartney, different story. Genius.

Agree with you about U2 and Oasis though.

Loads of bands don't do it for me, Oasis and U2 are two examples. I am not exactly a beatles fan but some of their stuff is very good and it is certainly more original than Oasis.

I've never got any of the american nu metal bands such as Slip Knot and Lincoin Park. They just seem to the American version of a boy band.

The first four that spring to mind:

    Coldplay
    Keane
    Franz Ferdinand
    The Strokes

The first 2 to me are just immensely dull, like travis, but travis did it what, 4 years ago, before these bands came and did the exact same thing? Travis were never an exciting band to me, pleasantly listenable but a little bit dull, so for 2 bands to come along years later with material that sounds so similar (to my ears at least) makes them nothing exceptional, yet coldplay and keane gained widepsread acclaim for exactly that.

Franz Ferdinand I've never got the appeal of, their music is 'okay' but not 'oh my goodness wow isn't this wonderful' which is the reaction of most of my mates. The Strokes, well I can listen to them without a problem, but ithey don't seem to have much get up and go - just sounds derivative and one paced. Give me the white stripes anyday, at least theres a bit of energy to it!

    All IMHO :)

I know what you are all saying about the Beatles, and I do like Strawberry Fields, but nothing else they did really stands out for me

Kings of Leon - I have the first album and really can't see what all the fuss was about , I have tried really hard to enjoy them but ultimately think they are.....Sh!te.

    Franz Ferdinand- Ditto

I presume that we all agree that all boy bands, girl bands ( apart from the letch angle ) and anything from the 'Pop Idol' type background is utter crap. On a very superficial level i can tolerate this music on via 'radio edit' versions whilst driving the car.

All Modern R'n'B, Hip-Hop, Gangsta, Rap, basically any music that is played on the following satellite channels; MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Base, MTV Dance, The Box, Kiss, Smash Hits, The Chart Show, etc.... ( although I have to admit I do kinda like Eminem and think his video's are quite funny, and i also like Fun Lovin' Criminals , especially their Vinyl Albums which all have excellent sound quality).

I hate that crap I didn't mention it because I don't really class any of them as bands. More of a product designed for 12 year old teens.

I never really understood the popularity of Oasis. So many other bands were doing it better it seemed to me.

The Manic Street Preachers. I tried. Seemed ... just a bit boring. I think this is because they are.

Bob Dylan.. (with the exception of a few amazing songs, I think its lost in his presentation for me)

Damien Rice - I thought Id like this, but its just mush to me.

Amy Winehouse - I really regret buying this. Anyone want it for a fiver?

Of all the above, Oasis would win ''most over-rated'' award in my book.

I always liked U2, they seem to play with real passion on many albums to me. Some killer tracks too.

Hmm, a 12-year-old teen. Interesting linguistic concept there!

These days teenagers start at 10 and finish at 14. By the time they are 14 they think they are an adult. Its only ten years later they realise they weren't :)

U2 were great when they first where around and I still wheel out the early albums from time to time. They haven't weathered well though. Oasis likewise. When I first heard Cigarettes and Alcohol I played it to all my friends saying, "This is going to be big" but now I think Yeah, they were but does it last?

AC/DC, Motorhead & Van Halen never moved me either. Don't know why, they should, but Deep Purple still do.

Funny how some bands stick with you and others fall off and yet others don't even come into radar.

Seems like a theme emerging here,

Oasis total overated load of tripe, The Beatles, some flashes of genius, but essential the first westlife
Travis, Coldplay,Keane, all of that ilk oh and Starsailor wailing ball breaking of the first order
The kings of leon, saw them on Jools H a week or 2 back, man what dross (a very good lady friend of mine, who would put a lot of the so called music buffs to shame on PFM (who is 52!!! rates them highly. go figure) For Me filed under bin liner
The Who also go in the I've never got them file, along with King Crimson, Kiss, Bernard bulter who ffs?.
The Manics too, the Darkness, slipnot, wankin' the park, rap crap, about covers it till I sober up

I wonder if most Oasis/Coldplay fans don't have HIFI systems and there for think it sounds good? :p

Three things amaze me about music:

    1) Officaly records show less than 50 people attnded the 1976 Manchester freetrade hall Sex Pistols gig. However more than 1000 people claim to have been there.

    2) Everybody says they hate Westlife even though they always sell out and get to number one.

    3) Everybody says they hate Cliff Richard so who has bought his 120 million records in the UK since 1958? On average every single person in the UK owns two cliff richard records.

So come on Westlife fans don't be ashamed to admit it!

PS I hate Westlife more than Steps.

Oi! Don't go lumping Coldplay in with Oasis and the rest. Of all the other "britpop" bands mentioned Coldplay are for me the only ones that have staying power. I don't agree that they are "like what Travis was doing 4 years ago" as I detest every single Travis track with a passion and rather like Coldplay. Keane, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand etc you can lump into the same shyte bucket with Travis and Oasis.

Good to see that no-one has mentioned Muse and Elbow, both excellent and original IMO and what all the others are trying to be but failing at miserably.

    Michael.

But aren't Muse just trying to be Radiohead anyway?

Of the "big" acts of recent years, I'd probably go for the Manic's and Stereophonics
