    hi,
been daydreaming a bit and was wondering if there was a half decent amp that would meet the following criteria....

250+ wpc output into 8 ohms - ideally doubling properly as impedence halves.

    cost less than 500 ukp.

new / old, foreign / domestic doesn;t matter.
monoblock pair would be nice but not mandatory.
big vu meters a definite plus but again not mandatory.

have seen a couple of nad amps which would probably do and possibly a rotel or two but was hoping for something a bit more bling.

    cheers

NAD and Rotel are the obvious choices.

I'd be inclined to go for an NAD 208THX, 218 or S200.

    Julian,

I can lend you a Crown K2 if you want to experiment.

About £500 s/h, fits the bill perfectly, and has a bottom end that puts Krell and Bryston to shame.

Alesis RA 500 (unfortunately, not bling at all). Or SM's Crown if you are looking for Death Star power.

    mike,
i'll take you up on your offer for a play with the crown if you don;t mind. fancy a bike ride tomorrow?

the alesis looks interesting and cheap enough to run bridged so i can arc weld my speaker's voice coils.

    not sure about the tact.

    keep 'em coming.

    cheers
