I've eaten a lot of baked beans, mostly Heinz but lots of supermarket brands and HP etc. Well, I tried some Branston beans the other day, and again yesterday, and I think they are now king of the beans. So there. :p

Can anyone else top the extremely mundane nature of this thread topic? What's your most boring 'thought for the day'?

I assume you have checked the salt levels in each brand?

Whaaaat? D'ya think I'm insane? I'm keeping my head as far away from my arse as I can, and that's not just a baked bean thing, that's house policy. :D

Nope, I eat my food, not read it ;). Actually I eat quite sensibly on the whole and try to approach shopping without allowing dietry paranoia and media hyped hysteria about food additives to upset me too much - my partners a veggie and we have 2 young kids so tend to keep things generally healthy. Not much processed food here, bar the odd tin of beans obviously (and the occasional frozen pizza, that goes without saying).

I will go out and buy some immediately!

Please give your subjective opinion on them. Do they have good bass? Probably the MSG bass enhancement system...

I really like the Branston branded Pickled onions too, you must try them, they're well tasty and much better than the average Pickled Onion...

Strangely though Branston Pickle sandwich type spread is very near the top of my small lst of things that I could never eat again , ( joint #1 with Heinz salad cream...Yuk ! )

Never liked Heinz baked beans, the sauce is too thick and cloying.

Branston, Crosse & Blackwell and HP are much better. Baked Beans are now considered to be a healthy meal! (with toast, baked potato etc. , not in a fry-up)

A few months back my local supermarket stopped stocking my favoured brand of curry flavoured beans:( although thinking back it must be about the time of the last food colouring scare:(

    Haha! Brilliant!

We had this very debate in my house the other day.

We tried the Branstons and they've gone down well. Nice and thick. 4 cans for £1!

Not much in it between them and Heinze, but at the lower price the Branstons edge it!

All I can say is avoid Heinz Tikka Beans. They are absolutely revolting.

I wouldn't get to hung up on the salt thing, the government likes to come out with a bit of crap once in a while to keep the masses believing they care.

If they wanted to do something for heart disease they would concentrate on many more things way before salt levels.

In the mean time I like the occasional baked bean, but usually I involve a borliti, or flangtout bean in me cooking.
