I have a pair of these avantic speakers bought from new in approx 1955 by a recently deceased elderly friend ....

does anyone have any info ?

used the way back machine to retrive details on beam echo but no mention of speakers just amps ???

the rough size is 3x4x2 foot looks like a 12" bass with a rear port ...but will investigate further over the weekend

I saw a single one of these on ebay some time ago (like a year+) and looked on the web at the time - couldn't find anything. Nice looking cab though I thought (if you like the big vintage look), I was interested at the time in buying some nice cabs to put my Tannoys in.

Wish I'd kept the Beam Echo amps I found a few years ago instead of shifting them on for a quick buck.

    hi Pete,

Why don't you contact john Howes at Audiojumble. He write the Retro Round up section in Hifi News. He may know something about them or know someone who does.

Ok now got these home .....

unscrewed the back and removed the ply back plate

inside is one 12" goodmans axiom 150 mkII and a trebax tweater in imaculate condition ....damping appears to be bags of fibre [horse hair ?] stapled the the flat surfaces.

dimensions are 12.5"x18.5"x36"...[slightly less than my guess ]

saddly the cabinates have more scuffs than I'd like though the front fabric is in pretty good nick after 53 years !

will hook them up to my system and see how they sound

just about to take some pic of the internals .....

contacted audiojumble ..but waiting a responce

There's a bunch of info on the Goodman's drivers here:

    http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/GoodmansAxiom150mkII.htm

Though the guy seems to have done some minor butchery to use them as the bass unit in an experimental open baffle design, there are some figures and an original ad.

Edit. Also a Google brought up an old page from Emporium. Their website seems to be down, but the cache says that they had a pair of the Goodmans drivers for sale in August this year for £300 the pair ... which would suggest that somebody somewhere likes em.

I've got an original Goodmans brochure from the late 50's early 60's I think, of loads of specs on early Goodmans drivers. I could scan all the info there is on the 150 if that's any use to you Pete - although the link above has probably got most of it covered.

    Sounds interesting.
I recently got into Tannoy. First 10" DC's and now the full fat 15".
Love the sound. Need some tube rolling to get it right though.

There's all sorts of Classophiles hanging out on Pink Fish in the Classic sections - you could ask there.

oops sorry Pete. Hm I'm not sure I remember myself. one was RCA to XLR and the others just straight rca to rca, but I can't remember the lengths I needed. I'll have to have a look and get back to you.
