Tell me about it, candles are lit in the hotel room, the phone goes and I have a 5 minute conversation on how to reset a router to a customer! I have a rule the only time I am no contactable is Saturday nights.

For me though the free time is the best thing about it, yes I am often working in the evening but I also have days off can go on holiday on very short notice etc.

If you want to work with young people come and work at the factory where I work (a dairy product repack unit).

WE have approx 40 staff, mostly aged 18-30, with a few older ones (like myself!) but we do get a lot of 18-25 year olds and ..............mostly Polish .........except four of us!!

Very true. My own kids, and other kids I've spoken to, all concur that Career Advisors are a complete waste of space. If you want a change of career, do something useful and fulfilling.

I used to work for Currys a few months back and I loved the people (the public) but I hated the pay, in fact at £6 an hour I made nothing on it because I would loose work from my business and it stopped me doing work for my business.

A job in a hifi shop is a non job.

AT has no more interest in hifi than he does in careers advice.

I think its time to buckle down and make a decision about what you want to do, money only comes with responsibility, careers advisor has no responsibility what so ever, nor does tele sales, nor does flogging pioneer to punters.

Responsibility requires long hours, it always does. To decide if you want to earn better money, work in catering for a few months and decide if you can do the long hours. If you can you know you want it, if you decide 50-60 hours a week is to much, become a careers advisor.

Why don't you try for a normal salaried job in IT? Wages are likely to be 'OK' at least, probably better than a trainee career advisor anyway. You have a qualification in IT don't you?
You might find a job performing a similar role to your self-employed stuff as a field engineer, where you get a car/van as part of the job but work largely 9-5 hours.

Need to get a driving licence first :). As for HIFI it is a bit unfair to say I am not interested in it, I just don't have the money to invest in my system and I am happy with the way it sounds so have stopped messing about with it.

I always think if I did this job for somebody else I would rather just do my job for less money.

Well that answers it then, you would rather work for yourself, for a bit less money. Be happy where you are. Or try to expand your business so you make more profit! Have you got in to small business IT support yet?

Gary, you don't have to work in a low end shop flogging Pioneer. He might get a job in a nice high-end shop and spend the days playing with Boulder, MBL, Naim, Audio Physic etc.. Its not a non-job its just a nice job!
