    Something of a sweeping generalisation.

Better to be poor and happy......than earning that next couple of K£ nad be miserable....+no time to yourself.

    A happy medium....;)

    No.

...and its going to get worse.

many people generally agree we are all having to paddle hader and harder.....

thats it - if yoiu are a high earner then you normally have the responsibility and stress that goes with it...look at london bankers for example - they normally burn themselves out in a short space of time...

    it's about striking a balance...

As usual the Guardian has a few thoughts on the subject of stress at work - might be of use when planning your next move.

    Mr Amazingtrade

I have read your posts for the last couple of years and to be frank you come across as indecisive, weak, ineffectual and generally drifting in circles.

I would not seek your opinion on anything let along career advice because you are basically inadequate.

I am not trying to be insulting but a career advisor needs to be able to listen to someone and make an accurate assessment of their abilities and then provide articualte and decisive advice. You are about as capable of that as I am capable of running the London Marathon.

    Think of something else.

    Regards

    Mick

I take it you've never met any career advisors then?

Good positive advice there, very helpful, I'm sure that'll spur AT on to better things.

    Good advice is often blunt.

while you do appear to be a bit less than tactful - you're not far off the mark...

    Mr Amazingtrade

I think if you are honest with yourself, you will accept that you will never become a mover and shaker. I cannot see you ever holding a stressful position that requires decisiveness and acum as a pre requisite.

Therefore aim for one of the postions previously suggested, knuckle down and climb the greasy pole in your own good time.

    These are they

    Least stressful

    Postmen

    Librarians

    Hairdressers

    Legal/accounts administrators

    Speech therapists

    Regards

    Mick

    I am being serious.

Someone could make a fortune in my area by being a window cleaner, we haven't had one here for years.

I know a chap who nets £650 pw driving taxis.

I also have a friend who is making a packet installing burglar alarms.

All of these jobs are low stress, easy to learn and you can work to suit yourself. Sort of thing that might suit Mr Amazingtrade.

    Regards

Mick .. Procurement Consultant and totally wrecked.

you seem to have some knowledge of IT.

Working in a corporate environment for a few years at your age would do you good.

I'd look for an IT job in a big corporate and get a few years work under your belt.

Whacked out on Sanatogen is my guess.

AT, I second bottleneck's advice above. Spend a few years as a corporate slave, it may be dull but you'll be earning.

AT, A few years as a corporate slave will bring in the money, look good on your CV and allow you to meet a load of new faces.

Whatever you do don't get sucked into working on a help desk as this is could be quite stressful and the only people you will meet will already be pissed with IT people in general and pressuring you to solve their problem by yesterday.
