I've never really bean into the turntable setup but am willing to start.

so i've had a look about and can see Project Debut II and Rega Planar 3 in my price range s/h that is.

for the time being i'll stict to the phonestage on my amp but i'm not sure what setup to get weather what I have mentioned above is any good, I know ive seen these s/h including tonearm and stylus and gather they are upgradeble, any other ideas or comments would be nice though.

regas are good because they are plug and play. that's really useful when its your first deck.

Personally, I'd make a phono stage the first upgrade when you get a bit more cash to spend on it (unless the inbuilt one is really good). A graham slee, lehmann black cube etc can often be had used for about a hundred.

Whats brought the interest on, out of curiousity?

    cheers
    chris

The interest came from well mainly watching my parents go over their old collection of records.

Wieredly enough because of my broad taste in music there where a few i would like to listen to and such, but although my parents like their music cant see the point in spending good money on hifi equipment infact they use some of my old hand downs (lol) and well any record played cheapo built in system cant do it justice.

The amp I currectly use although old and not that brilliant was commended for its phone stage at the price range.

    hi

I think if you've got curiousity about new and varied music and are willing to buy things on a whim a turntable is a brilliant thing to own.

It also helps to not be bothered by the odd click or pop.

Having a TT just seems more relevant every year to me.

I hope you enjoy it all too.

the projects are nice but project tend to go for strange geomertries between arm and TT so they're not always upgradable. Not sure about the debut II though.

Theres loads of upgrades available for the regas, both arm and deck. Theres usually stuff on ebay, platter upgrades, motor etc.
What year is the planar? Newer ones are much better than old.

    zoomer,
the projects are a great introduction to vinyl. real hi-fi for the price of a night out on the beer. i bought mine for an introduction too, very, very impressed. on the lookout for an lp12 or similar now tho (really got the bug!!, lol)
so, if interested, i will be selling mine in the near future. (already got 1 family member with their beady little eye on it!)

piano black, absolutely mint, as new, showroom con. one thing tho, dont be put of the low price new, no wonder the hi-fi press are banging on how good they are. a big, BIG bargain. :) ;) :)

    Rega!

Get a new belt, get it checked over, and you're sorted. The Debuts feel like Kinder toys in comparison; sound aside, something that feels that flimsy just isn't worth it when a Rega (which'll hold its value) is available.

My 1985 Rega Planar 3 (bought in 1998 for £150) is easily now worth nearer £200 on Ebay - not bad :) and it still sounds better to me than almost ANY LP12 I've heard (I hate that wow-y, mumbled sludgy bass machine with a passion. You have to spend BIG bucks on an LP12 to get decent bass... Not to mention a wall shelf to stop the damn thing wowing or jumpinig should an ant dare to walk within a mile radius of it...)

Yeah I'd say rega too. TTs don't have to be new to be good :)
I agree with lord summit, emporium. That rega would be nice, you can do a lot with planar2s

Im biased because I buy loads of stuff from Nick at the Emporium.

I will say that if you get him to agree to swap it if turns out to be duff then he is pretty good about doing what he's agreed.

I often pay a little more to buy stuff there because you've got someone to come back to.

Yeah that could be good too. Hifibitz aren't bad to deal with. Can't grumble at the service I recieved from them in the end. Went back there to buy a rack. If you get that for less than £100 you'll have done well. The Nad is a Czech built Rega 2, with slightly less well toleranced bearings and an MDF platter.

The NAD 533 is actually a P2 clone. I use one upstairs and it's bloody good VFM. The battleship grey NAD colour looks really cool as well. Only real problem seems to be the OEM Rega RB250 - it seems more susceptible to RFI than the "proper" RB300 on my Planer 3 downstairs - though that's totally different kit in that room...

Hopefully - seeing as he's incorrectly listed it with an RB200 - maybe people won't notice its actually got an RB300 on it.
